AITA: Sibling receives Internet support after 'body shaming' brother's girlfriend over her comments

A recent post on the Am I The A**hole (AITA) subreddit has become widely popular. The original poster, using the handle Ok-Local-3954, asked for opinions following an altercation with their brother's girlfriend.
The incident revolves around a TikTok trend in which couples record videos of the boyfriend trying to lift his girlfriend, but the duo's attempt at the challenge was soon followed by comments that sparked a heated exchange.
OP defends brother after girlfriend's comments about his strength
According to the OP's account, their brother's girlfriend had been eager to film the popular TikTok trend video "where the boyfriend picks up the girlfriend." The OP surmises that the brother's initial reluctance stemmed from worries about his girlfriend's weight since she is heavier than he is. Despite his initial reservations, he consented to record the video after his girlfriend persisted.
The situation escalated when the brother failed to lift his girlfriend while filming. Subsequently, she allegedly started to chastise him, labeling him as "small and weak." OP explained, " She immediately started berating him and saying he was small and weak and needed to go to the gym so he is able to pick her up."

OP, feeling uncomfortable with her remarks, stepped in and told the girlfriend "She shouldn't belittle my brother like that, and she said she's just telling the truth that if he can't lift a girl then he's weak."
The OP countered, "I pointed out that the truth in this case is that he's a perfectly normal weight and she's more the cause of him not being able to pick him up than he is (he's 5'10 150s she's 5'3 180s)."
This comment, according to OP, led the girlfriend to accuse them of "body shaming," and she stormed off, "She called me a bodyshaming a**hole and left, and a lot of her friends are telling me now I'm an a**hole too for body shaming her. I don't think that's fair."
Reddit community defends OP, calls out girlfriend’s body-shaming comments
The Reddit community has come to the OP's defense. A user said, "NTA and your brother should look for a more respectful partner."

Another added, "Weren't her comments body shaming your brother? The biggest issue is following stupid tik Tok trends. She called him weak, you called her fat. It evens out."

One commentator remarked, "NTA. At 5’3” and 180, she’s not exactly liftable for your average teenager. WTF is wrong with her shaming the BF? The truth hurts I guess"

"If you said it that way, definitely NTA. You told her the truth," one wrote in support.

A person said, "NTA - sometimes the truth hurts. Seems like it’s ok for her to “tell the truth” but isn’t a fan when it’s returned."

Someone else chimed in, "NTA. She was clearly body shaming your brother but you merely pointed out the reality (as long as you didn’t point it out nastily) I suggest your brother needs to lose some weight though. About 180lbs of it."
