Amy Schumer opens up on Mounjaro and perimenopause

In March 2025, Amy Schumer shared her experience using Mounjaro, a GLP-1 medication similar to Ozempic, typically prescribed for diabetes and weight management.

“Three years ago, I tried Wegovy,” she said in an Instagram video. “I was puking, I couldn’t handle it. I don’t know if they’ve changed the formula, whatever. But anyway, I went on this Telehealth meeting with Midi Health, and it was cheap. I wanted to try it myself ‘cause I wanted to recommend it to my friends who are nurses and teachers.”

She also revealed she was prescribed estrogen and progesterone after realizing she was in perimenopause. “My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy, I want to get down more, if you know what I mean. I’m talking about sex. So that’s been great and Mounjaro’s been great.”

Schumer admitted Mounjaro is rarely covered by insurance unless a patient has diabetes or severe obesity, which many people assumed she had.

“But I’m having a really good experience with it and I wanted to keep it real with you about that. Midi Health. I liked it so much and I had such a good experience (that) I invested in the company.”

According to People, she revealed that estrogen and progesterone, along with Mounjaro, helped her overcome perimenopause symptoms.

“My symptoms of being in perimenopause have disappeared. My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy," she wrote on Instagram.

Amy Schumer recalls struggles with Ozempic

The actress has openly discussed her past difficulties with weight-loss drugs, including Ozempic, especially after revealing she underwent liposuction in 2022.

“I have this gene, GDF15, which makes you extremely prone to nausea, which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy,” she said on 'The Howard Stern Show' in January. “So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago, and I was, like, bedridden. I was like, vomiting—and then you have no energy. But other people take it, and they’re all good. So, God bless them.”

She recalled how the side effects made it impossible to even play catch with her 6-year-old son, Gene David, making the rapid weight loss not worth it.

In June 2023, she also addressed the craze around Ozempic on 'Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen', saying, “Everyone has been lying, saying, ‘Oh, smaller portions.’ Like shut the f**** up. You are on Ozempic or one of those things or you got work done. Just stop."
