MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: On the April 19 episode of 'The View', co-host Ana Navarro came to the defense of her friend Sen Bob Menendez (D-N.J), asserting that the accusations of corruption and bribery leveled against him during his time in office don't align with the person she knows.

Navarro remarked, "This is not the Bob I know," and suggested that the Senator's wife, Nadine Menendez, might have been the catalyst behind his alleged illegal activities.

Menendez faces federal charges for acting as a foreign agent and receiving substantial bribes, including cash, gold bars, and a Mercedes-Benz, to promote the interests of the Egyptian government leveraging his position and influence as a US senator.

"I’ve known Bob Menendez for almost 30 years. I’ve worked with him on countless issues, Cuba, Nicaragua, immigration, Central America and free trade. This Menendez that I read about here just does not jive, does not square away with the man I’ve known for all of this time," she said.

"I went to him with 100 issues with very rich clients. He never ever did anything like this," she added.

Navarro further said, "And I will say this — and I don’t excuse him, I don’t justify him... because Bob is one of the smartest people in Congress. It’s a low bar, but he really is one of the smartest people that I know, that I’ve worked with in Congress."

Navarro opened up about her perspective on the corruption scandal involving Menendez, attributing some blame to Menendez's family and advocating for stricter regulations on lobbyists connected to powerful politicians.

She expressed disbelief at the situation, stating, "A lot of his friends, including me, when we saw this case, thought, ‘This is not the Bob we know. Who is this woman, and how is this happening?"

Navarro clarified that she doesn't excuse her friend's behavior but implied that his wife may have contributed to his decisions.

"I think this woman — I think Bob was completely smitten, enamored," she said.

"He was a lone wolf for a long time. This happened during Covid. Again, I don’t excuse him. He’s a smart guy. He should have known better. He’s not some stupid gullible ingenue," she added.

Despite acknowledging Menendez's intelligence and responsibility for his actions, Navarro added a critical comment.

She said, "Gold bars for a gold digger." This remark was a scathing criticism of the Senator's wife.

Internet reacts to Navarro's comments on Senator Menendez

Navarro's statements sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with users sharing their thoughts.

One person wrote, "Anything to avoid responsibilities. Even if that was the case, so what?! He was #Corrupt & in that scenario, fully #Complicit. Hypocrisy runs rampant amongst those who rewrite truths, like at The View, members of the Squad etc.".

Another person wrote, "Yeah...Bob is a real Boy Scout".

One more person said, "Nobody watches The View. It’s time to stop."

Another comment read, "Any senator and (in your face) corruption go together. A fix and small number of senators by region (rich or poor, big or small) is the perfect recipe for corrupting democracy. By 2040, 70 % of Americans will live in 15 states with only 30 senators over 100."

"Mastermind". Well that's one word that is never used to describe any host on "the view". Hell, even the "Mind" can't be used," one more comment read.

"Hahaha Fools, guilty is guilty!" said another.
