LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Angelina Jolie is once again at odds with her father, Jon Voight, as tensions flare over politics and free speech.

Insiders say Jolie has reignited her long-running feud with her father by speaking out against Donald Trump and strongly defending civil liberties.

They believe she is waging "all-out war" on Jon Voight’s MAGA beliefs. Jolie made the comments while promoting her new film at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain.

What did Angelina Jolie claim about free speech?

When asked about her fears as an artist and as an American, Angelina Jolie responded candidly, as cited by RadarOnline: "It's a very difficult question... I love my country, but I don't at this time recognise my country." She went on to say, "Anything, anywhere, that divides or, of course, limits personal expressions and freedoms and, from anyone, I think is very dangerous."

Her remarks came in the wake of ABC’s temporary removal of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' after the comedian mocked Donald Trump’s response to the death of 31-year-old right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

Angelina Jolie’s feud with father Jon Voight deepens over Trump politics

Following Angelina Jolie’s remarks, sources say tensions have sharply escalated between her and her father, Jon Voight, 86, a vocal Trump supporter who was appointed earlier this year as one of three “special ambassadors” to Hollywood.

“Jon feels Angelina has launched all-out war on everything he stands for politically,” one Hollywood insider revealed. “He thinks her comments weren’t just about Trump – they were a direct challenge to him and his role in MAGA Hollywood.”

A source close to the family added that the political divide is nothing new.

“Angelina has always leaned left, speaking out for refugees and against wars, and Jon sees that as undermining his values. He told friends she is embarrassing him on the global stage by siding with what he calls 'radical liberals.' Their fragile relationship has been blown apart again.”

Jolie, a former UN special envoy, has long championed progressive causes ranging from women’s rights to international justice. Insiders believe her latest statements were not just a reaction to the Jimmy Kimmel controversy, but part of a broader warning about the state of democracy under Trump.

“She believes personal freedoms are under attack in America,” said one source. “This is about more than Hollywood – it's about protecting civil liberties. But Jon sees it as a betrayal.”

Their strained family history only intensifies the clash. Jolie and Voight were estranged for years after a public falling-out in the early 2000s. Although they later reconciled, the current political rift appears to have reopened old wounds.

Jimmy Kimmel controversy sparks ACLU letter signed by top Hollywood stars

Not only Angelina Jolie, but other Hollywood figures have also weighed in on the Kimmel controversy. Several prominent stars, including Robert De Niro, Jamie Lee Curtis, Mark Ruffalo, and Meryl Streep, signed an open letter condemning the temporary removal of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' as both “unconstitutional” and “un-American.”

The letter, organized by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), warned: “The government is threatening private companies and individuals that the president disagrees with. We can't let this threat to our freedom of speech go unanswered."

Although Disney later reinstated the show following what it described as “thoughtful conversations” with Kimmel, Trump has continued to threaten the broadcast licenses of media outlets critical of him.

The move has drawn criticism from across the political spectrum. Even Republican Senator Ted Cruz called the actions “unbelievably dangerous,” comparing them to mob-style tactics “right out of Goodfellas.”
