AOC's egg-freezing finale raises eyebrows as she hails 'deepest' friendships but skips fiance
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has reached the end of the fertility-preservation process she spent two weeks documenting online, but one detail in her emotional account stood out: when she described waking up after the procedure surrounded by the people who matter most to her, she spoke at length about her closest friendships and the idea of family without mentioning her longtime fiance, Riley Roberts.
AOC had earlier refused to clarify her relationship status to a reporter who confronted her during her egg-freezing journey.
AOC remains mum on fiancé Riley Roberts
Ocasio-Cortez shared the final update on Saturday, August 22, and told followers that her doctor had explained beforehand that she would be asleep under anesthesia during the procedure.
Before going in, she said, an unexpected fear crossed her mind: that she might wake up completely alone.
But the reality, she said afterward, was very different.
“I couldn’t have been more wrong,” Ocasio-Cortez said, describing herself as waking up surrounded by what she called “the deepest and most important friendships” of her life.
She then reflected on what the experience had taught her about family.
“I think that it really drove home that a family is always what you make it,” she said.
It was an intimate reflection, but it also attracted attention because Roberts was not mentioned in that particular discussion.
The couple has been together for years and became engaged in 2022.

Ocasio-Cortez has generally kept their relationship away from the center of her public persona, and she has declined to discuss speculation about their current status.
AOC refuses to reveal fertility figures
The congresswoman also confirmed that the egg retrieval had been completed and that she had been given information about the number of eggs collected and how many were mature.
She chose not to reveal the figures.
“As I’ve mentioned previously, out of respect for all the different kinds of fertility and family journeys that people have, I will not be sharing my specific numbers,” she said.

Instead, Ocasio-Cortez urged people considering fertility preservation to focus on their own circumstances rather than relying on generalized expectations about the process.
The update came after days of documenting injections, appointments, and the physical and emotional side of the process for her nearly 10 million Instagram followers.
Ocasio-Cortez announced on August 8 that she had decided to freeze her eggs, saying the decision made her feel more in control of her future.
The unusually personal series quickly generated enormous attention, including criticism, and speculation about why she had chosen to make the process public.
