AOC asked about Riley Roberts split gives cryptic reply but doesn't deny reports

WASHINGTON, DC: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez found herself facing an awkward question about her private life after reports emerged that she and longtime fiancé Riley Roberts had quietly ended their relationship.

The New York congresswoman was approached by a reporter from the New York Post on Wednesday, August 12, outside her Queens home and asked directly about the reported split.

Her answer was brief and notably did not address whether the relationship had actually ended.

“I don’t comment on my private life, thank you,” Ocasio-Cortez said before walking away, according to the New York Post report.

The 36-year-old Democrat did not confirm the breakup, but she also did not deny the reports surrounding Roberts, her longtime partner and fiancé since 2022.

The question comes as renewed attention has fallen on Ocasio-Cortez’s personal life following her decision to publicly document her egg-freezing treatment.

Reports published this week say the couple had already gone their separate ways well before the news became public.

It was reported earlier that Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts called off their engagement roughly two years ago.

It was also reported that the relationship had ended, while noting that neither Ocasio-Cortez nor Roberts had publicly confirmed the split.

That timeline would mean the breakup predates Ocasio-Cortez’s recent fertility-treatment videos by a considerable margin.

From college sweethearts to a 2022 engagement

Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts met while they were students at Boston University.

Their relationship eventually became part of the congresswoman’s public story, although Roberts largely stayed away from the political spotlight.

The couple briefly broke up earlier in their relationship before getting back together.

Roberts later moved to New York and became a familiar, if mostly behind-the-scenes, presence in Ocasio-Cortez’s life.

When the pair confirmed their engagement in 2022, Ocasio-Cortez simply wrote on social media, “It’s true, Thank you for all the wishes.”

The breakup reports surfaced only days after Ocasio-Cortez began openly documenting her decision to freeze her eggs.

In the videos, she has shown followers the medications and supplies involved in the process, including the syringes used for her hormone injections.

Ocasio-Cortez has repeatedly said the decision was about having more control over her future and should not be treated as an announcement about her relationship status or political ambitions.
