WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded to President Donald Trump's statement, where he said he doesn't know who she is, and said that it is one of the reasons why the POTUS should come to her office.

AOC took to X and shared her response along with a clip of President Donald Trump making the statement in the White House on Thursday, October 9.

Donald Trump says 'we really don't know who is leading Democrats'

President Donald Trump said on Thursday, "The problem is we really don't know who the hell is leading the Democrats. You have this AOC. I don't know her at all. She said, 'If they want, they can come to my office'. That's not leadership. The only challenger was Nancy Pelosi. Nancy is not looking too good. I don't know what happened to Nancy."

Sharing the clip on X, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wrote, "If he doesn’t know me at all maybe that’s another reason to come to my office!" along with a smiley emoji.

In September, before the government shutdown took place, some Republicans pushed a narrative that Ocasio-Cortez was the architect of the government shutdown.

Meanwhile, AOC said during a segment on MSNBC, "This is so not about me in this moment. This is about people being able to insure their children. And I will say, because I saw some senators speculating about this, and I saw some Republican members of Congress saying, 'Oh, well, if we have this shutdown, it's because of AOC.'"

"Well, if that's the case, my office is open and you are free to walk in and negotiate with me directly, because what I'm not going to do is tolerate 4 million uninsured Americans, because Donald Trump decided one day that he wants to just make sure that kids are dying because they don't have access to insurance. That's what's not going to happen," she added.

AOC also mentioned, "And so if those senators think that we're having a shutdown because of me, they're free to enter my office and negotiate, because what we're not going to do is allow all of millions of people in this country to not be able to afford their insulin and their chemotherapy."

AOC accuses Trump of wanting children to suffer amid government shutdown

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a controversial statement claiming that President Trump "one day" decided to "just make sure that kids are dying", all while the government remains in shutdown limbo.

During an MSNBC appearance, AOC tied the shutdown directly to health care access and said it’s "about people being able to insure their children".

She told the network, "I will say, because I saw some senators speculating about this, and I saw some Republican members of Congress saying, ‘Oh, well, if we have this shutdown, it’s because of AOC."

"Well, if that’s the case, my office is open and you are free to walk in and negotiate with me directly, because what I’m not going to do is tolerate four million uninsured Americans because Donald Trump decided one day that he wants to just make sure that kids are dying because they don’t have access to insurance," the Democrat firebrand added.

Meanwhile, the White House didn’t waste time responding to her charge. Spokesperson Kush Desai told the New York Post, "If AOC really cared about America’s kids, she would stop drumming up baseless hysteria and tell her fellow Democrats to reopen the federal government and restore confidence for the millions of children who rely on WIC and other federal programs."
