NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Democratic Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez urged her supporters to donate funds to NY State Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday, October 9, to "fight back" against her federal indictment.

AOC sent out an email asking for donations for James, and claimed that the Democrat was being unfairly attacked by President Donald Trump after she was charged with mortgage fraud.

AOC asks supporters 'will you rush a donation to Letitia James right now?'

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's email read, "Letitia isn’t backing down, and we need to support her in this critical moment. Her campaign set a goal to receive 20,000 contributions before midnight to fight back."

"If you can, will you rush a donation to Letitia James right now? Your donation will send a powerful message that you’re standing in solidarity with Letitia as Trump manipulates the Department of Justice," she added.

Moreover, the email linked to an "ActBlue" fundraising page, but it wasn’t clear where the funds were going, whether to James' campaign or a legal defense fund.

AOC labeled the link to the fundraising page the "Letitia James Legal Fund" in an Instagram story she separately put up asking for help for the AG.

"The charges are completely baseless. This is a dangerous escalation of Trump going after those who hold him accountable," AOC said in the mail.

Meanwhile,  the national group Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) started a legal defense fund for James late last month. James was hit on Thursday with a federal indictment in Virginia charging her with bank fraud and lying to a financial institution.

However, she has denied the charges and claimed that Trump is playing politics and targeting her.

Letitia James accuses Trump of 'desperate weaponization' of DOJ

Letitia James criticized President Trump, accusing him of desperately weaponizing the Department of Justice (DOJ), after an indictment accused her of mortgage fraud.

She wrote in a post on X, "This is nothing more than a continuation of the president's desperate weaponization of our justice system."

"I am not fearful - I am fearless. We will fight these baseless charges aggressively and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights," James added.

In the video, she accused Trump of misusing federal law agencies acting on his behalf, and claimed that it was because she was doing her job as the New York State Attorney General.

"These charges are baseless and the president's own public statements make clear that his only goal is political retribution at any cost," she added.

The attorney general urged the leaders from both political spheres to act against what she called the clear misuse of the justice system.
