HOUSTON, TEXAS: Is the "Ted Cruz Curse' real? The Texas senator was in the news after attending another sports event that didn't go as planned.

This time, it was the Texas Longhorns' Sugar Bowl game against the Washington Huskies on Monday, January 1.

Despite Cruz's presence in support of the Longhorns, the team faced defeat, adding fuel to the theories of the "Ted Cruz Curse."

The outcome was unfavorable for Texas as Washington triumphed with a score of 37-31, securing their place in the national championship game next week.

This defeat for Texas perpetuates a pattern observed by some fans: Cruz's presence seems to coincide with his team's loss. During the autumn, Cruz attended the American League Championship Series to support the Houston Astros.

The Astros were defeated, and the Texas senator was held responsible by some fans.

In 2018, Cruz was accused of bringing bad luck to the Houston Rockets when the team was ousted from the NBA playoffs while he was present. Similarly, in 2017, a poorly timed selfie by Cruz was blamed for Texas Tech’s loss in the NCAA finals.

Last year, Cruz refuted the idea that his attendance at games was a jinx for sports teams, criticizing Rolling Stone magazine as "lying hacks" for an article that pleaded with him to avoid attending the Astros game, per HuffPost.

However, following the Longhorns' recent loss, some fans are directing their frustration towards Cruz with the "curse" theories.

An X user tweeted, "Cruz never should have been allowed to wear orange. What a jinx!"

Another user wrote, "We need to just ban this man from sporting events."

A person exclaimed, "And that’s why they LOST!"

"The 'Ted Cruz curse' is real," said another.

"TED CRUZ CURSE," added another.

"It’s over now. Cruz is definitely a curse. Ask any Astro fan," stated another.
