NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden slurred his way through his final address to the UN General Assembly as he offered yet another justification for his decision to withdraw from the presidential race.

While most of Biden’s speech focused on foreign policy, addressing topics such as the Middle East and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he also elaborated on his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Joe Biden opens up about his decision to withdraw from 2024 race

“Being president has been the honor of my life,” Joe Biden began. “There is so much more I want to get done. But as much as I love the job, I love my country more. I decided, after 50 years of public service, it’s time for a new generation of leadership to take my nation forward.”

Biden then appeared to take a subtle swipe at former President Donald Trump. “My fellow leaders, let us never forget, some things are more important than staying in power,” he stressed. “It’s your people—it’s your people—that matter the most.”

He continued, “Never forget, we are here to serve the people, not the other way around. Because the future will be—the future will be won by those who unleash the full potential of their people to breathe free, to think freely, to innovate, to educate, to live and love openly without fear.”

There was noticeable slurring in his speech—something that has generated considerable speculation—as he reflected on his long career, from the Cold War and the Vietnam War to more recent conflicts in Afghanistan, Israel, Palestine, and Ukraine. “We cannot grow weary,” Biden stated while discussing the conflicts. “We cannot look away.”

Biden also touched on his controversial decision to pull US troops out of Afghanistan. “When I came to office as president, Afghanistan had replaced Vietnam as America’s longest war. I was determined to end it, and I did. It was a hard decision but the right decision,” he claimed.

He told the audience, “Four American presidents have faced that decision, but I was determined not to leave it to the fifth.”

“Things can get better,” he said. “We should never forget that. I have seen that throughout my career. Maybe because of all I’ve seen and all we have done together over the decades, I have hope. I know there is a way forward.”

This comes more than a month after Biden's interview with CBS 'Sunday Morning', where he revealed his concern that staying in the race could hurt fellow Democrats, the Daily Beast reported.

“A number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate believed that I would hurt them in their races. I was concerned that if I stayed in the race, that would become the main topic,” he said, adding, “You’d be interviewing me about why Nancy Pelosi said this or that, and I thought it would be a real distraction.”

Joe Biden mocked after claiming he withdrew from 2024 race for a new generation of leadership

Joe Biden faced widespread mockery on social media after he claimed that he withdrew from the 2024 race to allow a "new generation of leadership" to move the nation forward.

"Weird way of saying you were overthrown by your own party elites," a user posted on X.

"Remember how you didn't want to give up your power so you were kicked out by your own party," a second user wrote.

"Joe Biden has decided nothing. He was pushed out by Democrats who couldn’t hide his cognitive decline anymore," another insisted.

"Nancy Pelosi kicked you to the curb," someone else chimed in.

"You didn’t decide anything, you were booted out and the whole world knows it," read a comment.

"Thank goodness. The last thing we needed was more years of Joe in public office! A whole career of corruption coming to an end!" another offered.
