WASHINGTON, DC: Russia's ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, refuted on Monday, July 1 that if Donald Trump is elected to a second term in office, he cannot put an end to the war in Ukraine in 'one day', according to The Hill.

Nebenzia stated at a news conference when asked about Trump’s pledge, "The Ukrainian crisis cannot be solved in one day. That’s objective."

Trump has frequently bragged about his ability to broker agreements to stop international conflicts, including Russia's conflict in Ukraine. But he hasn't given any information about his plans.

Referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump said in a March 2023 interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, "If it’s not solved, I will have it solved in 24 hours with Zelensky and with Putin."

He added, "And there’s a very easy negotiation to take place. But I don’t want to tell you what it is because then I can’t use that negotiation; it’ll never work. But it’s a very easy negotiation to take place. I will have it solved within one day, a peace between them. Now that’s a year and a half. That’s a long time. I can’t imagine something not happening."

Two months later, in May 2023, Trump repeated identical statements at a CNN town hall. He said, "They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done — I’ll have that done in 24 hours."

Nebenzia explained some of the intricacies of the negotiating process in his Monday answer to the reporter. He stated that a chance to put a stop to hostilities existed in April 2022, but he accused Western allies of impeding the agreement.

He also laughed at the meeting in Switzerland last month, where 80 nations insisted that a peace agreement must be based on Ukraine's 'territorial integrity'.

A user wrote, "Trump achieved nothing during his presidency. It's all lies, bluster and bloviating", while another stated, "Give him a week, then. Or a month. Or four years. At least someone will FINALLY be working towards peace. Right now, nobody is."
