Donald Trump trolled as Tom Cotton claims he 'had a strong relationship' with Volodymyr Zelensky
WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR), who is considering running for vice president, asserted on Sunday, June 9, that former President Donald Trump 'had a strong relationship' with Volodymyr Zelensky during his time in office.
This claim deftly avoided bringing up the fact that Trump was impeached for attempting to blackmail the president of Ukraine by refusing to provide military support for his war against Russia, according to Daily Beast.
Cotton told Fox News on Sunday, "President Trump has said that he strongly supports Ukraine's strength and survival. He had a strong relationship when he was in office with President Zelensky."
BREAM: Trump reportedly wants Ukraine to give up Crimea & parts of Donbas. Isn't that giving Putin what he wants?

He added, "President Trump is the one that provided Ukraine the weapons they needed to fend off this Russian invasion that happened in large part because of Joe Biden's weakness."
In February 2022, a year into Biden's administration, Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine. The second-largest Ukrainian city, Kharkiv, is under attack from Russia as the Biden administration tries to keep US and foreign military backing for the conflict.
However, during a phone call that Trump arranged with Zelensky in July 2019, he put pressure on the Ukrainian president to assist in gathering information against Biden and other key political enemies.
According to a transcript, Trump said, "I would like you to do us a favor though."
The call was pounced upon by Democrats as proof of malfeasance. When Trump offered Zelensky a quid pro quo — political dirt on Biden in exchange for $250 million in military help for Ukraine, which was then battling rebels backed by Russia in its eastern regions — he was impeached for misusing his authority.
During his Senate trial, Trump was found not guilty by a single vote cast by Mitt Romney (R-UT), a member of his party.
Notably, on April 18, 2024, days before the Republican-led House of Representatives was scheduled to vote on a $61 billion assistance package, Trump changed the tone of his speech to say that the existence of Ukraine is crucial to the United States, stated the Reuters.
Moreover, the former president did not support the plan, and he spent most of his article on Truth Social lamenting the underfunding of Ukraine by America's European friends. While Trump did not state it clearly, several hard-right Republicans read the statement as an indication that he is against the current assistance plan.
