WASHINGTON, DC: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni captured attention at the NATO Summit on the morning of July 11 with an expressive display of impatience.

Meloni's exasperation was unmistakable as she and other world leaders awaited the arrival of US President Joe Biden and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The meeting, scheduled to start at 10 am, had been delayed, and Meloni's reactions quite vividly expressed her annoyance.

Animated display of annoyance

As she conversed with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Giorgia Meloni dramatically rolled her eyes and glanced at the ceiling. She then gestured towards her wrist, indicating she wasn’t wearing a watch, highlighting the delay.

A third person in their conversation checked his phone for the time, prompting another eye roll and a scowl from Meloni before she noticed the cameras recording her reactions.

Although the content of their discussion remains unknown, Meloni's overt reactions did not go unnoticed. A Financial Times reporter described her behavior as "top eye-rolling form" on social media platform X. The summit eventually began at 10:40 am, with Biden arriving nearly 20 minutes late from the White House.

This wasn't the first instance of President Biden keeping Prime Minister Meloni waiting. At the G7 meeting in Italy’s Puglia region the previous month, Biden was the last to arrive. He awkwardly saluted Meloni onstage, which she humorously addressed by saying, "You shouldn’t leave a woman waiting like this."

During the same event, Meloni had to redirect Biden back to a skydiving demonstration after he wandered off to converse with an officer packing a parachute, the New York Post reported.

Joe Biden mocked on social media following Giorgia Meloni's eye roll

Giorgia Meloni's eye roll quickly went viral on social media, sparking a wave of reactions trolling the President.

"She is us. We are her," one posted on X.

"We feel ya girl, same here," another quipped.

"Yet Democrats are claiming that Biden is a statesman who's respected by world leaders. Maybe for his comedic value," someone else wrote.

"I laugh out loud when people tell me Biden is respected by world leaders," read a comment.

"He has made a mockery out of the United States," another offered.

Concerns over Joe Biden's health

The viral moment reignited discussions about President Joe Biden's health and cognitive abilities. North Carolina Representative Dr Greg Murphy, a practicing physician, voiced his concerns in a video posted to social media.

"In my tenure, I’ve seen many, many individuals succumb to cognitive decline," Murphy stated, referencing recent instances that he believed demonstrated Biden's decline. “Tragedy, two weeks ago, when we saw the president of the United States exhibit those qualities of decline of cognition.”

Dr Murphy emphasized his 35 years of experience as a urologist, caring for numerous elderly patients. He argued that Biden’s health issues have been obscured by "the White House, by many people in politics, even people of celebrity status."

Murphy is one of 19 practicing physicians in Congress and one of several politicians expressing doubts about Biden's capacity to serve. At least ten members of Biden’s party have publicly suggested he should not seek a second term.

This group reportedly includes Sen Peter Welch from Vermont, and Reps Lloyd Doggett of Texas, Raul Grijalva of Arizona, Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, Mike Quigley of Illinois, Angie Craig of Minnesota, Adam Smith of Washington, Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey, Pat Ryan of New York, and Earl Blumenauer of Oregon.

Dr Murphy articulated a common concern: "He’s obviously had a decline in the ability to think, to react, to assimilate data. What we’re facing now is a country that – we were always at risk, we were always in peril of other forces coming in from the outside. We now have a president that, by and large, the majority of individuals do not feel he is up to the task."

“Even more concerning is the fact that the media, the White House, political figures on that side, have lied to the American people. And so, I’m concerned about the president’s health now. He’s in my prayers. But we need a president of the United States that is able to stand strong, to think well, to think hard for the American people in times of crisis. And sadly enough, today we don’t have one," the congressman added.

Despite these criticisms, Biden, along with his wife Jill, and Vice President Kamala Harris, remain steadfast in their decision to pursue reelection. All three have made campaign appearances in North Carolina following Biden’s June 27 debate against former President Donald Trump.
