WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Angie Craig (D-Minn) has called on President Joe Biden to step down from the 2024 presidential race.

Craig posted her statement on social platform X, joining four other House Democrats in urging Biden to withdraw after a rough debate performance against Donald Trump.

Angie Craig doesn't believe Joe Biden can win against Donald Trump

Biden faced criticism following a debate in Atlanta where he stumbled over his words and sounded raspy.

This has led to growing concerns about his ability to effectively campaign and compete against former President Donald Trump.

“I have great respect for President Biden’s decades of service to our nation and his steadfast commitment to making our country a better place,” Craig said in her statement.

“However, given what I saw and heard from the President during last week’s debate in Atlanta, coupled with the lack of a forceful response from the President himself following that debate, I do not believe that the President can effectively campaign and win against [former President] Donald Trump,” Craig added.

Angie Craig says Joe Biden should allow a new generation of leaders to step forward

Craig joins fellow House Democrats Representatives Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz), and Seth Moulton (D-Mass) in publicly calling for Biden to withdraw from the race.

“This is not a decision I’ve come to lightly, but there is simply too much at stake to risk a second Donald Trump presidency," Craig said.

"That’s why I respectfully call on President Biden to step aside as the Democratic nominee for a second term as President and allow for a new generation of leaders to step forward,” Craig added.

Craig noted the need for new leadership within the Democratic Party as it has an extraordinary number of talented leaders.

“Our party has an extraordinary number of talented leaders within it," Craig said, adding, "I believe this is an opportunity to put forward an open, fair, and transparent Democratic process to select a new nominee to inspire and unite our great nation."

Biden responded to the calls for his withdrawal in an interview with ABC, stating, “If the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get out of the race,’ I’d get out of the race. The Lord Almighty’s not comin’ down,” Biden said.

Internet reacts as fifth House Democrat Angie Craig joins call to suggest Biden to step down

Internet users reacted to fifth House Democrat Angie Craig's call to suggest Biden to step down.

“He needs to resign,” wrote one user. Another commented, “Joe Biden is not a good man. He never has been.”

Others mocked Biden's assertion that only God could compel him to drop out. “You’re not God Almighty so please sit down,” one user wrote.

“President Biden has served his Country with distinction for over five decades. He has lasted longer in professional and public life than just about any of us will. But he is not immortal. For all of us there comes a time,” one user commented.

Another criticized the timing of Craig’s realization, “So you didn’t notice his decline 3 years ago?? Because if you didn’t, I don’t think you have the judgement to be in the position you’re in comrade,” they wrote.
