WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Seth Moulton (D-Mass) has become the third House Democrat to publicly urge President Joe Biden to step down from the presidential race.

Moulton's call follows Biden's weak debate performance last week, which has left some of his allies concerned.

Rep Seth Moulton calls for Joe Biden to step aside from November run

Seth Moulton, who ran against Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential primaries, suggested that it is time for the president to make way for new leadership.

This sentiment echoes earlier comments from other Democratic representatives.

“President Biden has done enormous service to our country, but now is the time for him to follow in one of our founding fathers, George Washington’s, footsteps and step aside to let new leaders rise up and run against [former President Donald Trump],” Moulton said on Boston-area radio station WBUR Thursday.

On Wednesday, Moulton stated that the Democratic Party should explore “all viable options” as doubts grow about Biden’s ability to remain at the top of the ticket as per The Hill.

“When your current strategy isn’t working, it’s rarely the right decision to double down. President Biden is not going to get younger,” Moulton noted in his statement.

White House maintains that Joe Biden is not leaving the presidential race

The White House remained firm that Joe Biden is not leaving the race, with party leaders publicly supporting him.

In a fundraising email sent Wednesday, Biden asserted, “I’m the Democratic Party’s nominee. No one is pushing me out. I’m not leaving, I’m in this race to the end, and WE are going to win this election."

"If that’s all you need to hear, pitch in a few bucks to help [Vice President Kamala Harris] and me defeat Donald Trump in November," he said.

Moulton joins Reps Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) and Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz) in calling for Biden to withdraw from the race.

Centrist Democratic Reps Jared Golden (Maine) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Washington) have also voiced their belief that Trump could defeat Biden in November.

Additionally, several Democrats have privately discussed Biden’s position at the top of the ticket since the debate.

Internet reacts to calls for Joe Biden to step down

Netizens reacted to Seth Moulton’s comments with mixed views.

One X (formerly Twitter) user noted, "Seth Moulton comes out against everyone. Lol. He wanted Nancy Pelosi to step down."

Another commented, "Not the first time this guy has quit on his party."

Critics questioned Moulton's intentions, "What’s his plan to win then?" with another remarking, "He panics real good..."

Some responses pointed to the representative's previous attempts to challenge Democratic leadership, "Didn't he also try to take out Pelosi? He's an ambitious guy, but his influence only goes so far."

Others defended Biden, saying, "Leave POTUS ALONE. HIS ONLY CRIME IS OLD AGE ?. OPEN YOUR EYES AND FORCE THE CRIMINAL OPPONENT TO DROP OUT."

There were harsh criticisms directed at Biden's capabilities as one user stated, "How could any decent person support the election of a seriously impaired old man."

"Oh right. Really hard to find decent elected people. They are prepared to put a hollow shell with limited intellect if it serves their partisan agenda. Biden enablers have no decency," the user added.
