WASHINGTON, DC: An opinion piece by moderate Democrat Jared Golden has left people divided on the Internet after he predicted that Donald Trump will be the next president and he’s “OK with that”.

Writing for the Bangor Daily News, the US Representative for Maine's 2nd congressional district, mentioned, “While I don’t plan to vote for him, Donald Trump is going to win. And I’m OK with that,” while referring to President Joe Biden’s June 27 debate disaster that resulted in an outcry from his critics as well as a few Democrats.

Jared Golden believes Donald Trump won’t ‘end our democratic system’

But Golden said, “Biden’s poor performance in the debate was not a surprise. It also didn’t rattle me as it has others, because the outcome of this election has been clear to me for months.”

He also stated that, unlike his party members, he did not think that Trump’s win would be “a unique threat to our democracy.”

The Marine Corps veteran elaborated, “Unlike Biden and many others, I refuse to participate in a campaign to scare voters with the idea that Trump will end our democratic system.

“Pearl-clutching about a Trump victory ignores the strength of our democracy. Jan 6, 2021, was a dark day. But Americans stood strong. Hundreds of police officers protected the democratic process against thousands who tried to use violence to upend it.”

Jared Golden states 2024 election ‘is about the economy’

Golden also asserted that the November 2024 election “is about the economy, not democracy. And when it comes to our economy, our Congress matters far more than who occupies the White House.”

“I urge everyone — voters, elected officials, the media, and all citizens — to ignore the chattering class’s scare tactics and political pipedreams. We don’t need party insiders in smoke-filled back rooms to save us. We can defend our democracy without them,” he added.

Netizens say ‘common sense wins the day’

Meanwhile, people online have shared their thoughts too as Maine State Representative Austin Theriault slammed Jared Golden and wrote, “This is a very phony attempt to avoid accountability. Simple questions for Jared Golden: Does he support Joe Biden for President or not? Does Golden believe Biden is mentally competent or not? He won’t say, because he puts politics ahead of Mainers.”

A person on X tweeted, “Good on him! Common sense wins the day.”

Another person shared, “Wow! That took some bravery to write and stand up to the majority of his D peers.”

“Finally a Dem with enough smarts and guts to speak out!!” the third one stated.

The fourth person wrote, “Exactly, Trump was president, he wasn't a dictator, and he didn't rule like a king. The chaos came from a Russia collusion hoax and a liberal media that was extremely mad he won. It seemed chaotic because the media had a full-blown 24/7 meltdown every minute of every day.”

But the fifth one added, “That is head in the sand nonsense. Trump is a criminal who has already once tried to destroy our democracy and now the Supreme Court has essentially said he can do it again with immunity.”

“This a dem lawmaker? Not for long. He'll switch to MAGA/GOP and Trump will NOT WIN!” a tweet read.
