WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden addressed a Black Church service in Pennsylvania on Sunday, July 7, two days before the beginning of the NATO summit in Washington, reported Fox News.

As voices across the aisle grow for the 81-year-old to step out of the race, following his abysmal performance in the presidential debate against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump on June 27, Biden laughed off concerns about his age and shared that the "world's looking to America".

"I know I look 40 but I've been doing this a long time," Biden joked while speaking from a stage at Mount Airy Church of God in Christ in northwest Philadelphia on Sunday.

"I, honest to God, have never been more optimistic about America's future if we stick together."

He later brought up the subject of the upcoming NATO summit, saying, "I'm about to host the NATO nations in Washington. We put them together. The world's looking to us. Not a joke. The world is looking to America not to carry their burden, but to lead their hopes."

"When I ran for the first time for president, I said something basic. I said, we have to bring back dignity and hope in America, number one," he continued. "Number two, we have to give working-class and middle-class people, like the family I came from, a shot and build the economy from the middle out and the bottom up, not the top down."

"And thirdly, we must unite America again. That's my goal. That's what we're going to do. God bless you all and may God bless our troops," concluded POTUS.

The three-day summit beginning on July 9 is set to mark the 75th anniversary of the world’s biggest security organization, while Russia presses its advantage on the battlefield in Ukraine. According to Fox News, the participating members will focus on ways to reassure Ukraine of NATO’s enduring support and offer hope to its citizens.

Internet reacts to Joe Biden's remarks

Netizens mocked the incumbent over his comments on the social media platform X, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"Joe's right! The world is looking to America to get rid of Joe Biden! The world sees Joe Bidens diminished capacity and they are afraid!" wrote a user.

"It's almost laughable," stated another.

"No their not. Maybe for our cash," quipped a third.

"NATO is realizing the UNITED STATES is run by an incompetent idiot. We're a joke to the world! Ran by a president that can't complete a sentence wonders off during events," expressed a fourth.

"Biden's speech amid calls to step aside raises questions. Why laugh off age concerns while many doubt his capability? Leadership demands strength and clarity, not platitudes," commented a fifth.
