LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Once a year, the White House Correspondents' Dinner serves as a rare moment of camaraderie between politicians, journalists, and celebrities.

However, this year's event, hosted by President Biden, sparked controversy and division, revealing deeper tensions between the press and the administration.

Jesse Watters says Trump was 'punchline' at WH Correspondents' Dinner

Jesse Watters' incisive commentary on the recent White House Correspondents' Dinner has reignited discussions about the intersection of politics, media, and humor. In his critique, Watters encapsulates the disappointment and division that characterized President Biden's performance at the event.

Watters begins by contextualizing the significance of the Correspondents' Dinner, tracing its origins back to Warren Harding's presidency. He remarks, "Once a year, politicians, journalists, and celebrities get dressed up for the White House Correspondents' Dinner, a tradition that goes back over a century to Warren Harding..."

This annual gathering is intended to foster camaraderie between the press and politicians, offering a rare opportunity for them to set aside their differences and engage in lighthearted banter.

Biden makes his WH Correspondents' Dinner roast all about Trump

Biden took the stage at the WH Correspondents' Dinner and opened his speech, “It's been a year since I delivered this speech, and my wife chills with me tonight and was worried how I'd do. I told her, don't worry, just like riding a bike. She said, that's what I'm worried about.”

President Biden continued, “The 2024 election is in full swing. And yes, age is an issue. I'm a grown man, running against a six-year-old.”

Biden went in to say“ I'm asking you to rise up to the seriousness of the moment. Move past the horse race numbers, and the gotcha moments, and the distractions, the sideshows, that have come to dominate and sensationalize our politics, and focus on what's actually at stake. I think in their hearts you know it was at stake. The stakes couldn't be higher. Every single one of us has roles to play, a serious role to play, in making sure democracy endures, American democracy. I have my role, but with all due respect, so do you.”

Jesse Watters slams Biden speech as 'lame and tame'

However, Watters doesn't shy away from pointing out the glaring absence of former President Trump from the event during his entire term. He notes, "But the relationship between the press and President Trump was so acrimonious...that he no-showed the dinner for his entire term."

Turning his attention to President Biden's performance, Watters doesn't mince words. He observes, "Biden brought the party back Saturday night, but had a hard time breaking bread."

Watters also critiques the comedic stylings of Colin Jost, the evening's emcee. He remarks, "Besides that, Colin's jokes didn't have any bite. The President's still being protected, even at a roast."

Jesse Watters added, “Now the rest of the evening was lame and tame. The president's jokes didn't land, and most of his material wasn't even aimed at the press. Trump was the punchline."

In a scathing assessment of Biden's remarks, Watters asserts, "Biden and the press are supposed to get up there and roast each other, and neither of them did. The president and the press are now a protected class. The media is a joke and Biden can't take one. Barack Obama did 20 minutes on stage, Biden only spoke for six. He didn't bash the media, he actually begged the media to bury Trump.”

Internet says Biden doesn't understand what a roast is

The Twitterverse erupted with a flurry of opinions following Jesse Watters' critique of President Biden's performance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Users expressed a spectrum of views, reflecting the diverse reactions to Biden's appearance and the overall tone of the event.

One user said, "They couldn't fit you in."

Another said, "Have you considered the possibility that this is because Donald Trump is a joke of a president and a joke of a man, and that it’s simply not funny to you all because you’re the punchline?"

Another replied, "Anything involving Biden has to be carefully choreographed & timed around his frequent "sundowning" moments. Amazed this event was held at all."

One user said, "Once again proving Joe has no clue! He doesn't understand what a 'Roast' is. That and he really has no sense..of humor."

Another said, "Jesse, get a life. Trump has sent all of you after Biden. You are a hypocrite. Biden said nothing of the sort. Trump talks crap about Biden 24/7, and so do U. Seethe harder Jesse & Don."

One user replied, "When did the White House Correspondents Dinner become a rallying of the troops?"
