WASHINGTON, DC: The Internet went wild with laughter, but was also left surprised, after news broke that White House correspondents were allegedly behind most of the minor thefts that happened on Air Force One, the official aircraft of US President Joe Biden.

This sparked a frenzy of online comments aimed at Biden, with many hurling insults his way.

Adding fuel to the fire, Biden recently found himself under intense scrutiny following a joke he made about Boeing aircraft during a fundraiser at Radio City.

When Stephen Colbert asked him if he gets the bolts of his Air Force One checked by the Transportation secretary, Biden quipped that he never sits beside the door on a Boeing. This was a reference to the recent string of incidents involving Boeing planes.

White House reporters behind petty thefts on Air Force One

According to a report by Fox News, a recent article in Politico stirred up quite the controversy by suggesting that journalists traveling with the President on Air Force One are not just there to report the news, they're also helping themselves to souvenirs.

This piece, featured in Politico's 'West Wing Playbook', delved into the habit of reporters snatching items from the presidential aircraft as keepsakes.

The report revealed, "For years, scores of journalists — and others — have quietly stuffed everything from engraved whiskey tumblers to wine glasses to pretty much anything with the Air Force One insignia on it into their bag before stepping off the plane."

Describing the situation as "rampant thievery", the Politico report stated, "NBC correspondent Kelly O' Donnell, the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, included a terse reminder to colleagues that taking items off the plane was not allowed and reflected poorly on the press corps as a whole, several individuals who saw the off-the-record email confirmed."

"The rampant thievery makes sense when you remember that Washington is a town populated by a lot of ambitious, status-seeking dorks. Many people who fly with the president on Air Force One really want you to know they’ve flown on Air Force One."

The report also shared anecdotes from current and former White House reporters who confessed to witnessing or participating in the thievery. One recounted, "On my first flight, the person next to me was like, ‘You should take that glass.’ They were like: ‘Everyone does it.’"

The Politico piece uncovered stories of lawmakers accompanying the President on the plane also helping themselves to items, with one reporter stating, "There’s one about the senator in the front of the plane who — as a chatty aide told reporters — was taking everything not bolted down."

The Politico report also mentioned a dinner party in the Air Force One, stating, "Several colleagues of one former White House correspondent for a major newspaper described them hosting a dinner party where all the food was served on gold-rimmed Air Force One plates, evidently taken bit by bit over the course of some time."

Internet asserts even White House correspondents have no respect for Joe Biden

People were quick to show their displeasure over the 'rampant thievery' by White House correspondents.

A Facebook user wrote, "Even the journalists have no respect for Joe."

Another user wrote, "The President sets the example!!!!!"

A user commented, "Employees follow their boss in what they do. 😃"

Another user trolling Biden commented, "This is what happens when you have a President who seems barely remembers his own name."

A user stated, "Of course. They are going to take advantage of this administration just like the rest of the world is right now!"

Another user stated, "Lead by example Biden's the leader."
