Amid this, a new book, coming out on May 20, called ‘Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again’, which has been co-authored by CNN's Jake Tapper and Axios' Alex Thompson, has shed light on the alleged discussions that happened behind closed doors regarding Biden’s second term as president.

Joe Biden would've had to use wheelchair if he served second term as president

The Democratic leader faced widespread calls to drop out of the 2024 race as concerns regarding his increasing age became prominent.

Biden ultimately backed out, resulting in Kamala Harris taking over for him and running against Donald Trump. But the Republican leader won and became the 47th president of the US.

The writers in their upcoming book said, “Biden's physical deterioration -- most apparent in his halting walk -- had become so severe that there were internal discussions about putting the president in a wheelchair, but they couldn't do so until after the election.”

Dr Kevin O'Connor, Biden's personal physician, had also reportedly discussed the use of a wheelchair for him as he said that “a wheelchair might be necessary for what could be a difficult recovery.”

The book by Tapper and Thompson also claimed that aides of the 46th president took steps to “protect” him and even walked alongside him to handle and cover him from the media if he fell.

Not just that, Biden’s mental health issue was a matter of concern, too, as he often forgot the names of people.

But the spokesperson added, “Yes, there were physical changes as he got older, but evidence of aging is not evidence of mental incapacity.”

Earlier in 2023, Joe Biden underwent surgery to remove a cancerous lesion from his chest.

At the time, Dr O'Connor had said, as per ABC News, “As expected, the biopsy confirmed that the small lesion was basal cell carcinoma.

“All cancerous tissue was successfully removed. … No further treatment is required,” he added.
