WASHINGTON, DC: In a headline-grabbing moment during a press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President Donald Trump took a sharp jab at former president Joe Biden by invoking the legacy of the late Jimmy Carter.

While discussing US-EU trade talks at the White House, Trump told reporters that Carter could "die peacefully," knowing he was no longer the worst US president, as that title now belongs to Biden.

Donald Trump declares Joe Biden as ‘worst US president’

President Donald Trump didn’t hold back Thursday while taking questions from reporters during a press meeting with the Italian prime minister. He began, "And then you had like the last administration (Joe Biden's), the only thing they were good at was cheating in elections," Fox News reported.

Trump dubbed the Biden administration the “worst in the history of our country” and took a biting swipe at both Joe Biden and the late president Jimmy Carter. “Worse than Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter died a happy man,” Trump told reporters. “You know why? Because he wasn‘t the worst. President Joe Biden was.”

Trump's criticism comes amid continued attacks on Biden’s mental acuity, a theme echoed in recent publications questioning the former president’s cognitive state.

A book titled 'Uncharted: How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History', released April 8, includes claims from a White House aide alleging that Biden's inner circle effectively isolated him, allowing his mental faculties to "atrophy."

The president’s remarks came just days after Biden pushed back in his first public address since leaving office, sharply criticizing Trump’s early administration.

“Fewer than 100 days, this administration has done so much damage and so much destruction. It's kind of breathtaking it could happen that soon,” Biden said at a disability advocacy conference in Chicago on Tuesday, April 15.

Despite the heated political rhetoric, Trump also turned his attention to trade during the joint press conference with Meloni. The two leaders expressed optimism about reaching a trade agreement between the US and the European Union.

After initially imposing a 20% tariff on EU goods on April 2, Trump announced a 90-day pause and reduction to 10% on April 9 to give negotiators time to finalize a deal.

“There will be a trade deal, 100%,” Trump said. “Of course, there will be a trade deal, they want to make one very much, and we’re going to make a trade deal. I fully expect it, but it’ll be a fair deal."

After Trump claimed Jimmy Carter could "die happy" and labeled Joe Biden the worst president, internet users shared their thoughts on the same in the comments section of the article.

One reader wrote, "Jimmy Carter was a bad President, but he was a great human being. He died a happy man because of all the great work he did with his 35 years in Habitat for Humanity."

Another commented, "Carter lived in a fantasy world politically. His policies were off base but were not designed to increase his power or wealth. Biden was the opposite in many respects. Both were not great presidents."

One user agreed by sharing, "Saying that Carter was a better president than Biden is not really a compliment, but it is true."

One more person added, "Agreed on the Presidency, but let's look at this from a humanitarian standpoint. If Carter was a 100, then Biden would be a 4, maybe less."

One individual shared, "Jimmy Carter was a decent and honorable man. Joe Biden has never been either."

A comment read, "He's absolutely right. Biden is an absolute disgrace even as a person, and he's ALWAYS been, let alone "president"."
