Bill Maher compares dinner with Trump to dating Taylor Swift after president's brutal rant
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bill Maher has responded to President Donald Trump's lengthy attack on him with a joke involving Taylor Swift, comparing having dinner with the president to dating one of the singer's exes.
The late-night comedian made the remark during Friday's episode of 'Real Time', taking aim at Trump's comments about him on Truth Social. Maher's response came after Trump published a post of more than 1,300 words, calling the comedian a "total loser" and criticizing the ratings of his show.
Maher also challenged several claims Trump made in the post, including the president's suggestion that the comedian disagreed with his position on Iran's nuclear arsenal. He further denied Trump's claim that he calls him frequently, saying the president is usually the one who contacts him.
Eating with Trump is like dating Taylor Swift. A lot of laughs at the time, but later on they’re tearing you a new asshole. https://t.co/VmphvHkf01

Bill Maher compares dinner with Trump to dating Taylor Swift
Maher used Taylor Swift's dating history as the basis for his joke while discussing his experience of having dinner with Trump.
"I mean, eating with Trump is like dating Taylor Swift. It's a lot of laughs at the time, but later on, they're tearing you a new a**hole," Maher said on 'Real Time' on Friday.
The remark referenced Trump's latest criticism of the comedian after the two had previously shared a dinner. Maher's comparison turned the president's social media attack into material for his late-night show.

Trump calls Bill Maher a 'total loser' in lengthy Truth Social rant
Trump's attack on Maher came in a lengthy Truth Social post that reportedly crossed 1,300 words. The president criticized the comedian and his television show, describing him as a "total loser" and taking a swipe at its ratings.
The post became the subject of Maher's response on Friday's show, where he addressed several of the president's statements rather than limiting his remarks to the personal criticism.

Maher also took issue with Trump's description of his position on Iran. The comedian appeared to challenge the claim that he did not support the president's policy on removing Iran's nuclear arsenal.
To make his point, Maher played clips showing himself approving of the policy. This allowed him to directly address what he said was an inaccurate portrayal of his views.
Bill Maher denies calling Trump frequently and says president contacts him
Another claim that Maher challenged was Trump's suggestion that the comedian calls him "incessantly."
Maher denied making frequent calls to the president and said their communication usually happens the other way around. He also pointed out that Trump holds the country's highest office, suggesting that he would be hesitant to call him himself.
"I've never called you, you call me. I'd be afraid to call you. You're the president. I think you're too busy. Well, plainly not," Maher said.
Maher also appeared amused by the length of Trump's post, describing it as the "longest ever" and adding that it was "kind of a flex."
