NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'Real Time' host Bill Maher highlighted how the nation's response to the infamous 2017 Charlottesville white supremacist rally paled in comparison to the growing antisemitism on the left.

"I got a question. How come it's okay for the left to hate the Jews?" Maher asked on Friday night, per Fox News. "Because, obviously, if this was the people at Charlottesville doing this, wouldn't there be a bigger outcry?"

Ana Navarro says violence in Gaza fosters the left's activism

In response, CNN contributor Ana Navarro stated that the left's activism is largely influenced by the "images" of deceased children in Gaza, arguing that it is not an "apples to apples" comparison.

However, author Joel Stein argued that the protesting college students had "more power" than the "tiki torch IT guys" who were participating in Charlottesville's 'Unite the Right' rally.

Bill Maher says 'there's no condemnation like there was with Charlottesville'

"If the people in Charlottesville who were chanting ‘Jews won't replace us,’ I mean, that's bad. It's not as bad as ‘Death to.' That's not deplorable?" Maher exclaimed. "It's absolutely terrible," Navarro responded.

"Okay, well, if one side is deplorables and the other side does something that's- I mean, if I was a Holocaust survivor, and I guess there's not many of those left, but if I was, I would choose ‘Jews will not replace us’ over 'Death to Zionists,'" Maher said. "There's no condemnation like there was with Charlottesville," he later added.

Several antisemitic incidents occurred in recent days

A number of antisemitic incidents have happened recently. Violent anti-Israel demonstrations occurred outside the White House last Saturday, during which an agitator wearing a Hamas headband displayed a bloodied mask of President Joe Biden's face.

On Monday, June 10, protesters chanted "Long live the intifada" outside a Nova Music Festival Exhibition in New York City memorializing the victims of Hamas' October 7 attack.

The Brooklyn Museum's Jewish officials' house was attacked on Wednesday by vandals using red paint, and a banner with the words "white-supremacist Zionist" was hung.

A video of anti-Israel demonstrators swarming a New York City car went viral this week as well. It showed the demonstrators chanting, "Raise your hand if you're a Zionist. This is your chance to get out."

Netizens support Bill Maher's observations

Internet users condemned the growing far-left antisemitism in the United States. One X (formerly Twitter) user penned, "The left is never right."

Another wrote, "It’s not ok. Thank you Bill Maher for raising the issue."

"Because the left decided they are allowed to get away with any crime it wants too and the right hasn't started arresting them all for the crimes they have committed and the left own a lot of the judiciary/legisl which will let their criminal friends; ideologically speaking, free," opined one.

"That's ok, they hate everybody," another chimed in.

"Its on large part funded by the billionaires of the Left, also, Qatar, Iran, the Chinese, the Russians. In the US the institutions, as with President Joe, takes Bribe$ Not all, but mostly Democrats, Progressives, Liberals!" commented one user.
