Internet divided as Trump blasts Biden over 'open and gushing' borders amid deteriorating migrant crisis
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Donald Trump recently slammed President Joe Biden amid the escalating migrant crisis at the US southern border, as per the New York Post.
Speaking to his supporters at a Commit to Caucus Rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, January 27, the Republican frontrunner said, "Our borders are open, and gushing, it's a big gushing wound."
Highlighting the surging number of undocumented migrants entering the country, Trump said the crisis has become a "weapon of mass destruction — our destruction."
From the outset, the former president had criticized the Biden administration's border policies but became more vocal on the issue as his GOP nomination prospects strengthened following victories in Iowa and New Hampshire.
He stepped up lobbying the GOP Senators to kill an emerging bipartisan border deal to prevent Biden's victory.
Donald Trump calls the migrant crisis 'an invasion'
Trump, who in the past vowed to be "a dictator for a day" to deport the illegal immigrants, likened the ongoing crisis to "an invasion."
He said, "Nothing like this has ever happened to our country before — this is an invasion."
The ex-POTUS further added that the record number of 302,000 migrants who crossed into the nation in December 2023 would hurt "African Americans and Hispanics," whose support for Democrats apparently appears to be declining.
Accusing Biden and the Democrats of wanting "open borders," the leading Republican presidential candidate called it "a betrayal of our country and it's an atrocity against the Constitution."
"Yet unbelievably, crooked Joe Biden is fighting to tear down those beautiful border barriers," claimed Trump, referring to the escalating crisis in Texas.
Notably, the Supreme Court recently ruled in support of Biden to remove the razor wires that Texas Gov Greg Abbott installed at a migrant entry point. This led to a standoff between the state and the US government.
In light of this, Trump pledged to send reinforcements to the Lone Star State instead of restraining orders if elected in November.
Internet divided over Donald Trump's remarks regarding the 'open and gushing' southern border
Netizens had mixed reactions to Trump's remarks on the worsening migrant crisis. While some supported the ex-president, others pointed out his failure to build the border wall. On the other hand, some also opined both Biden and Trump are weaponizing the issue to attain power.
One wrote, "All lies, both are playing games for power struggle and jeopardize all usa citizens. This is morally wrong," while another remarked, "Would have been nice is someone had fulfilled a campaign promise and built the damn wall."
A person expressed, "I'm really concerned about the current state of our borders. It's important to address the worsening migrant crisis and find a more balanced solution."
"Trump wants it to stay this way up until Election Day," stated someone else.
One more opined, "I completely agree with Trump's concerns about the worsening migrant crisis and the need for stronger border controls. This situation is becoming overwhelming and needs to be addressed urgently."
