'Both should be jailed': Spencer Pratt accuses Newsom and Bass of fraud over LA homelessness crisis

Pratt alleged Bass was tied to publicly funded homelessness nonprofits that he called a 'mafia-like' network that profited as the crisis persisted

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Reality television personality and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt escalated his attacks on California's political leadership on Saturday, May 30, arguing that Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass should face criminal consequences over homelessness and public safety conditions in the state.

In an interview with Fox News, Pratt accused both leaders of hiding the true scale of the crisis and claimed official statistics do not reflect what residents see on city streets every day.

Speaking about homelessness in California, Pratt dismissed claims that conditions have improved under current leadership. He argued that reported reductions in homelessness do not match the reality experienced by residents.

"Newsom and Karen Bass make up stats. Those are not real numbers," Pratt said. He contended that anyone living in California can see that the situation has not improved and claimed there has instead been an increase in the crises.

Pratt then went further, alleging that both leaders should face legal consequences for their handling of public crises.

"They both should be in jail together," he said, arguing that what occurred during recent disasters amounted to "criminal negligence."

Pratt claimed the two Democratic leaders have a shared interest in defending each other politically because of potential scrutiny over their decisions.

While criticizing state and local officials, Pratt portrayed the homelessness issue as evidence of deeper failures in governance.

He argued that taxpayers have spent enormous sums while conditions on the ground remain largely unchanged.

Pratt's latest remarks build on a series of increasingly aggressive accusations he has directed at Bass and organizations involved in homelessness programs.

In the same interview, Pratt alleged that the mayor was connected to nonprofit groups that receive public funding to address homelessness.

He described those organizations as a "mafia-like" network and claimed they were benefiting financially while failing to solve the crisis.

Pratt also asserted that Bass appeared in email communications involving individuals and groups that he said were facing Justice Department scrutiny.

He argued that officials and organizations connected to homelessness programs were profiting from a system that continues to struggle despite billions of dollars in spending.

"She's connected to obviously a mafia-like organization," Pratt said, adding that he believed some of the people involved were under federal investigation.

He also accused city leadership of allowing vulnerable people to remain in dangerous conditions while public money continued flowing into homelessness-related programs.
