Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne joins siblings in legally dropping dad’s last name
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne has officially dropped her father’s famous last name after a Los Angeles judge approved her petition for a name change.
The 18-year-old will now be known as Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, removing “Pitt” from her name. Her decision makes her the latest of the former couple’s children to legally drop their father’s last name amid the family’s ongoing estrangement.

Vivienne Jolie’s name change petition approved by Los Angeles judge
A Los Angeles judge granted Vivienne’s petition during a hearing on Monday, November 2, at the Los Angeles Superior Court’s Stanley Mosk Courthouse. Her attorney, Peter Kenneth Levine, appeared remotely for the morning hearing, during which Judge Virginia Keeny read aloud the names of individuals whose name change petitions had been approved.
Explaining the process, the judge said the petitions would be granted after reviewing the information provided. She told applicants they could obtain a copy of the decree in approximately one week from Room 112 on the first floor of the Stanley Mosk Courthouse. Keeny also explained that she would read each applicant’s last name and the final four numbers of their case before signing off on the paperwork.
“There being no objections, the petition for change of name is granted,” the November 2 minute order stated. The document further confirmed, “The Decree is signed and filed,” officially changing the teenager’s name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.

Vivienne initially filed her petition on July 20, just eight days after celebrating her 18th birthday alongside her twin brother, Knox. According to court documents obtained at the time, she cited “personal” reasons for wanting to remove “Pitt” from her last name.
The teenager had already been publicly using only her mother’s last name for more than two years. In May 2024, she was credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in the Playbill for the Broadway production of 'The Outsiders', which she helped Jolie produce.

Vivienne is the fourth of Jolie and Pitt's six children to legally drop the 'Fight Club’ actor's last name. Her older sister Zahara, 21, officially changed her name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie in September after a Los Angeles judge approved her petition.
Their older brother Maddox, 25, also legally removed “Pitt” from his name that month, becoming Maddox Chivan Jolie. Shiloh, 20, was the first of the former couple’s six children to legally drop their father’s last name. She filed her petition on her 18th birthday in May 2024, and her request was granted that August.
Meanwhile, Vivienne’s twin brother Knox also omitted “Pitt” from his high school diploma earlier this year, although he has not been confirmed to have legally changed his name. Jolie, 51, and Pitt, 62, also share son Pax, 22.

The name changes come amid the former couple’s family estrangement following their contentious separation. Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016, after two years of marriage. The pair were declared legally single in 2019 before finally settling their divorce in December 2024, following an eight-year legal battle.
Despite reaching a divorce settlement, the former couple remains involved in a separate legal dispute over their French winery, Chateau Miraval. The disagreement over the property has continued following their divorce, with the winery dispute remaining a separate legal battle between the two.
