Brad Pitt seeks Angelina Jolie's financial records over claims she put her 'career on hold'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The legal battle between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has taken another turn, with Pitt asking the court to order Jolie to produce financial records from 2017 to 2019.
The request comes after Jolie claimed she had largely put her "career on hold" and given up years of compensation following their 2016 separation. The latest dispute is part of the former couple’s ongoing fight over their former shared winery, Chateau Miraval.

According to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Pitt is seeking records showing Jolie’s income and profit participation statements from 2017 to 2019. She had allegedly agreed to provide financial records covering 2017 through 2021 but has only produced documents for 2020 and 2021.
Pitt’s lawyers alleged that Jolie has withheld financial documents despite previously agreeing to produce them. The filing states that her cross-complaint claims she put her career on hold after the couple’s 2016 separation, "forgoing years of compensation," while alleging he had "substantial leverage and control" over her because of her financial condition.
It also states that by 2019, Jolie concluded she needed to sell her interest in Miraval to gain "financial independence" from Pitt.
The filing further notes that on February 23, 2026, Jolie withdrew her agreement to provide declarations and participation statements covering the full 2017–2021 period, instead limiting production to 2020 and 2021, including tax returns and profit participation statements for those years only.
His legal team argued that they previously proposed Jolie stipulate she was not under economic pressure before January 1, 2020, and that Pitt did not exert economic coercion between 2017 and 2019, but Jolie declined.
During an Informal Discovery Conference, the court also proposed limiting the scope of her testimony concerning her earnings and compensation, which she also declined. According to the filing, she confirmed that she would not argue at trial that Pitt used Miraval as leverage to control her and that her decision to put her career on hold relates to why the proposed non-disclosure agreement was allegedly abusive.

In an earlier legal filing, Jolie disputed Pitt’s characterization of her statements about seeking financial independence, arguing that his legal team selectively quoted her allegations. She maintained that she sought "financial independence from her ex-husband," not because she was experiencing general financial distress.
Jolie’s filing stated she never alleged she was financially cornered or in financial hardship, arguing that Pitt’s references to those claims were his own interpretation rather than her words.
The filing also challenged his assertion that her financial condition justified his request for broader financial disclosures, arguing that the issue centered on her effort to separate her finances from her ex-husband while selling her share of Miraval.
The filing further claimed that he inaccurately connected his request for a non-disclosure agreement to her financial condition, stating that she never alleged feeling "financially cornered." Instead, Jolie argued that Pitt was attempting to require her to sign an NDA regarding what she described as abuse involving her and their children as a condition of purchasing her interest in Miraval.
According to the filing, the issue was not whether she needed money but rather her effort to untangle her life and finances from her former husband. She also argued that seeking financial records from 2017 to 2019 would constitute a serious invasion of her privacy.
