NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former CNN host Brian Stelter cautioned that Donald Trump will probably be an unpredictable force to reckon with on stage, saying he wasn't sure how mean the former president would be to President Joe Biden in the first debate.

"I think the danger or the fear with this debate is that Donald Trump's going to try to make it much more about personality and personal issues," Stelter said on CNN on Thursday, June 20. "Just to boil it down, how cruel is Trump going to be? How cruel will he be to Biden?"

Brian Stelter says Donald Trump is more unpredictable than Joe Biden

As for the upcoming debate, Stelter predicted that scenes in which Trump disparages or insults Biden will likely surpass differences in policy and "might really become viral in ways that could be positive or negative, and no one knows for sure."

The debate is set for June 27 in Atlanta, much earlier than in any previous election cycle, and it has raised questions about how both candidates will handle the situation.

According to Stelter, Trump is a far more unpredictable debate opponent than Biden, "For Trump, it's anyone's guess," Stelter said. "He's claiming he's not going to be prepping the way Biden is, so it's anyone's guess."

For Biden, the upcoming debate is a "chance to raise the salience of Trump controversies and scandals and bring those home to Americans," Stelter added.

"Those are the moments I think Biden's going to want to create to try to clip," Stelter said.

Brian Stelter's previous debates were more focused on 'policy questions'

Stelter, who conducted interviews with former debate moderators for Vanity Fair, said previous debates were more concentrated on "policy questions" and "substance questions."

However, he added that it is likely that both candidates will enter the debate "assuming that people have not been paying attention" to politics and are not familiar with Trump's legal disputes

Donald Trump and Joe Biden are using the final days differently before the debate

The last few days before the debate are being used very differently by Trump and Biden.

Trump has refrained from engaging in mock team debates thus far, preferring to meet with close allies and hit the campaign trail.

Meanwhile, Biden has decided to fortify himself with his advisors at Camp David in the days preceding what is anticipated to be a historic showdown.

A few candidates for vice presidential running mate, senators, and other policy experts are among the Republican allies that Trump has been meeting privately in recent weeks as he prepares for the debate, sources told Fox News.

His campaign has described the meetings as "policy discussions."

Internet opines Joe Biden 'can handle himself' in the upcoming debate

Netizens sided with the current US president after Stelter cautioned that Trump will probably be brutal in the upcoming face off against Biden.

One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, "By cruel, do they mean asking hard questions that Americans want answered? Trump already agreed to Biden's demand that they be allowed to sit down for the debate. If Trump wanted to be cruel, he wouldn't have agreed to that."

Another individual penned, "thats hilarious considering how cruel biden and the left has been toward Trump and his entire family, including Barron when he was just a 12-13 yr old kid."

"Oh hell, Biden is a grown man he can handle himself. Everyone has been preaching how he’s on top of everything. Crap it’s a debate not a mean tweet! Deal with it!" added one user.

"Trump is not a cruel person so Brian Stelter should change his rhetoric!!" opined one while another user commented, "Stelter is such a loser! It’s honestly embarrassing to listen to his incoherent blather."
