WASHINGTON, DC: GOP Rep Tim Burchett defended Donald Trump after many reports claimed the former president acted like a "drunk uncle" when he met with congressional Republicans at Capitol Hill on June 13.

The 45 president visited Capitol Hill for the first time since his infamous departure from the White House in January 2021 after the Jan 6 Capitol attack. After a closed-door meeting with the Republican lawmakers, he held a press conference at NRSC.

An attendee of Trump's private gathering reportedly said that meeting with the White House hopeful was "like talking to your drunk uncle at the family reunion."

Tim Burchett defends Trump, denying the reports

On Thursday, June 14, Newsmax host Ed Henry interviewed Burchett, raising the reports of Trump's conduct at the closed-door meeting, according to Mediaite.

Henry, labeling the news "fake," brought up the report by a DC-based media outlet, NOTUS, which former CNN host Brian Stelter retweeted.

Pointing at Stelter's retweet, the NewsMax host asked, "This is how the mainstream media wants to characterize what happened on Capitol Hill today. Is that what happened? You were in the room. I wasn't, Brian Stelter, wasn't?"

Burchett immediately refuted the claims, stating, "None. None whatsoever. As a matter of fact, the president was right on."

The Tennessee Republican also took a swipe at President Joe Biden's cognitive fitness, saying the octogenarian "sees people he's known his whole life and he doesn't know who they are."

"Trump was picking people out in the crowd, random members, and was saying, oh, yeah, remember when you were down?" Burchett said.

The lawmaker added that the former president was on fire, and he handled the meeting very well. He further called out the media, accusing them of wrongly reporting Trump's words.

Burchett's defense of Trump continued when he claimed that the White House hopeful did not attack Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene and did not take a shot at Taylor Swift.

Burchett concluded, indicating that the media and the American public knew what Trump discussed.

"And they're also lying about what he said about the great state of Milwaukee," host Henry added, referring to Trump reportedly calling the 2024 republican National Convention venue a "horrible city," during the meeting.
