THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA: Pop icon Britney Spears appeared to have a tense night out this week, as a video obtained by the Daily Mail on Thursday, October 23, showed the singer driving erratically through Thousand Oaks after leaving dinner with a friend.

The 43-year-old ‘Toxic’ hitmaker reportedly left upscale restaurant Red-O shortly after midnight, looking distressed as several people appeared to try to stop her from driving. Despite the commotion, Spears got into her black BMW and took the wheel, an act that witnesses said nearly ended in an accident.

According to one onlooker who spoke to the outlet, Britney Spears “nearly ran over her friend while pulling out” of the restaurant’s parking lot.

The video showed Spears swerving into opposite lanes, including a bike lane, as she made her way home to her gated community in Thousand Oaks. At one point, the Grammy winner was seen tailgating another vehicle, raising concerns about her condition.

When she stopped at a red light, Spears appeared to put something into her mouth, though it was unclear what.

A source told the outlet that the singer struggled to enter her property once she reached her neighborhood.

“She would key it in and drive up to the gate, but the gate would not open,” the insider claimed. “She did this three or four times. The friend never left her car. After 20 minutes, the friend left. Brit then spent another 10 minutes trying to get in and finally succeeded.”

According to insiders, Britney Spears’ recent erratic behavior is linked to the release of her former husband Kevin Federline’s memoir, titled ‘You Thought You Knew’, which was published on October 20.

A source close to the star said Federline’s book has “put Britney in a tailspin.”

“She’s spiraling. It’s reopening old wounds,” the source revealed. “She’s acting out. She gets into these spirals, and it just goes downhill fast.”

Federline, 47, who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, shares two sons with her — Sean Preston, 19, and Jayden James, 18.

In his memoir, the former backup dancer made several disturbing claims about his relationship with the pop superstar, including allegations that their sons once woke up to find Spears watching them sleep while holding a knife.
