CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA: In a bizarre and memorable moment, former President Donald Trump cautioned his supporters against socializing with Hannibal Lecter, the notorious antagonist from the 1991 film 'Silence of the Lambs'.

Speaking at a rally in Chesapeake, Virginia, on Friday, June 28, Trump took the opportunity to reflect on his recent debate with President Joe Biden while also issuing an unusual warning.

Donald Trump cautioned his supporters not to have dinner with Hannibal Lecter

"They’re coming from prisons and jails, mental institutions and insane asylums like Silence of the Lamb," Trump claimed, referring to undocumented immigrants. "The press always says, ‘Why does he ramble about Silence of the Lamb?’ The late, great Hannibal Lecter. He’d like to have you over for dinner. Did you ever? Don’t do it. If he suggests, ‘I’d like to have you for dinner,’ don’t go. But these are the people that are coming into our country and they are coming in numbers that nobody can believe."

Trump's comments drew a mix of bewilderment and amusement from the crowd, as he doubled down on his peculiar admiration for the fictional cannibalistic serial killer played by Anthony Hopkins. This was not the first time Trump had invoked Hannibal Lecter at a rally.

Former President Donald Trump listens as his attorney Todd Blanche speaks during a press conference at 40 Wall Street after a pre-trial hearing on March 25, 2024 in New York City. Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. “Has anyone ever seen The Silence of the Lambs?” Trump asked at a previous rally. “The late, great Hannibal Lecter is a wonderful man. He oftentimes would have a friend for dinner. Remember the last scene? ‘Excuse me. I’m about to have a friend for dinner,’ as this poor doctor walked by. ‘I’m about to have a friend for dinner.’ But Hannibal Lecter. Congratulations. The late, great Hannibal Lecter.”

Internet users react to Donald Trump's Hannibal Lecter speech

A social media user tweeted, "Bro is unwell. “Late, great?” Why does he keep praising fictional a serial killer?"

Another added, "Ah. Back to talking about Lecter again."

A third claimed, "He repeats the same speech over and over again. Even if it’s idiotic."

"When you don't have any policy ideas you've got to fill the time with something," mocked a user.

"Delusional," simply said a user.

"…and Stinky even tried to claim that “Hannibal Lecter” is what the migrants are," read a tweet.

"If we’re going to have to do another four years of this, can he at least get some new material?" penned a user.
