Candace Owens compares rescue story of downed F-15E airman in Iran to 'Iron Man'
WASHINGTON, DC: Conservative commentator Candace Owens has stirred fresh debate online after reacting to a viral video describing the dramatic rescue of a downed pilot, drawing an unexpected comparison to a Hollywood film.
The clip, which has been widely shared across social media, features Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth detailing the search-and-rescue of the second crewman of an F-15E aircraft shot down by Iran.
Candace Owens says rescue story is similar to 'Iron Man' opening scene
Owens reshared the clip on X, adding her own take that quickly caught attention.
“My editor has informed me that this narrative is identical to the opening scene of the movie Iron Man,” she wrote.

Her comment pointed directly to the 2008 film ‘Iron Man’, which begins with a pilot being captured and held in a cave before eventually escaping.
By making that comparison, Owens suggested that the storytelling in the viral clip felt more cinematic than real.
Pete Hegseth’s narration adds dramatic tone to rescue timeline
The video that sparked the reaction features Pete Hegseth narrating the sequence of events surrounding the rescue of the downed airman. His retelling focused heavily on the pilot’s survival and the timeline of the rescue.
“One downed airman evaded capture for more than a day, scaling rugged ridges while hunted by the enemy,” Hegseth says in the clip. The airman reportedly climbed 7,000 feet up a mountain ridge and remained hidden.
He also highlights a moment of communication from the pilot after activating an emergency transponder. “His first message was simple and powerful… ‘God is good,’” the defense secretary adds.
The narration continues with a structured timeline: “Shot down on a Friday, Good Friday… hidden in a cave… all of Saturday and rescued on Sunday… flown out of Iran as the sun was rising… on Easter Sunday.”
Hegseth closes the segment on a reflective note, saying, “A pilot reborn, all home and accounted for… a nation rejoicing. God is good.”
Trump said on Monday that the rescue mission involved 155 aircraft. Several different teams, like Navy SEALs, Air Force Special Operations, and Army Special Operations Aviation, were involved. The POTUS has dubbed it "one of the most daring search and rescue operations in US history" and an "Easter miracle."
