Celine Dion announces triumphant comeback with Paris concerts after hiatus due to rare illness
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Celine Dion is finally stepping back into the spotlight.
After being sidelined by a rare neurological disorder, the powerhouse vocalist has announced a string of comeback concerts, marking a long-awaited return to the stage. The reveal was timed with her birthday on Monday, March 30, and confirmed she’ll perform 10 shows in Paris across September and October.
“This year, I’m getting the best birthday gift of my life,” she said in a video shared on her verified Instagram account.
The singer, who turned 58, was very hopeful. She told fans she’s “feeling good” and “strong,” even breaking into a bit of dancing.
“I’m feeling excited, obviously a little nervous, but most of all, I’m grateful to all of you,” she added. “I love you all, and I’ll see you soon!”
The Paris shows are reportedly set for the massive Paris La Defense Arena and follow a wave of speculation after posters featuring her song titles mysteriously appeared across the French capital. French outlet La Presse had already hinted that Dion would be headlining a residency at the 40,000-seat venue. Ticket presales begin April 7.
Celine Dion's private battle turned public
The comeback carries weight. Dion’s absence wasn’t just a simple hiatus, it was a fight.
Dion was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in 2022, a rare progressive neurological disorder that affects the brain and spinal cord, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. She publicly revealed the condition after postponing European tour dates, saying the spasms were affecting her ability to walk and sing.
“While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms that I’ve been having,” she said at the time. “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”
The following year, she canceled her Courage World Tour. A source close to her told CNN she would “likely never tour again.”
“She is in a lot of pain,” the insider said at the time. “She does daily physical therapy.”
Dion later gave fans a closer look at her struggle in the 2024 documentary 'I Am: Celine Dion', where she was seen working to regain her voice while dealing with significant pain. “The people, I miss them,” she said at one point, referring to her audiences.
Celine Dion last performed publicly at Paris Olympics opening ceremony
The Paris concerts mark a major step in her return. Dion last performed publicly in 2024 at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, delivering a rendition of Edith Piaf’s 'L’Hymne à l’amour'.
Her most recent music release was the soundtrack for the 2023 film 'Love Again', in which she also appeared.

Earlier this year, the singer refreshed her presence on TikTok.
"My team then said they’d handle everything, handed me back my phone, and then quietly disappeared," she said in her first video. "So here I am, learning how this TikTok world works…one video at a time! Thank you for being here, I’m glad we’re here together."
