OREM, UTAH: President Donald Trump announced early Friday, 12 September, that the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s assassination was turned in by his father.

Soon after, authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Utah resident Tyler Robinson and detailed how he was arrested.

Tyler Robinson confessed to his father about shooting Charlie Krik

Two sources told CNN that Robinson “confessed to his father that he was the shooter.”

According to the report, Robinson’s father then told authorities he had “secured his son” until police could formally detain him. A law enforcement official stated that Robinson's father recognized his son from photos released by the FBI.

The father told his son to "turn himself in". He also called a youth pastor to assist. The pastor called the US Marshals, who took the suspect into custody.

This development came soon after Trump went on air with 'Fox & Friends' to confirm they had a suspect in custody.

In a press conference, Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed that Robinson's family turned him in after his confession.

“We got him,” Cox said of Robinson's arrest. He said, “On the evening of September 11th, a family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend, who contacted the Washington County sheriff's office with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident,” Cox said.

He added that a family member also told authorities that Tyler Robinson had “become more political recently” and had spoken against Kirk. Cox also thanked Robinson's family for doing the right thing.

Donald Trump reveals Taylor Robinson's father turned him in

During a live interview, President Trump revealed details he had just learned before his 8 am appearance.

“I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him,” said Trump, explaining that “somebody who was very close to him turned him in,” and that it was the suspect’s father who relayed the information through “a minister who was involved with law enforcement.”

The president added, “I hope he’s going to be found guilty and I hope he gets the death penalty. What he did — Charlie Kirk was the finest person and he didn’t deserve this."

Tyler Robinson's Discord message linked him to Charlie Krik's killing

Tyler Robinson’s roommate showed investigators messages on Discord, a group chat app, where Robinson talked about retrieving a rifle, according to Cox.

The roommate opened Discord and “allowed investigators to take photos of the screen as each message was shown by Robinson’s mate,” Cox said today at a news briefing.

“The content of these included messages affiliated with the contact Tyler, stating a need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving the rifle in a bush, messages related to visually watching the area where a rifle was left, and a message referring to having left the rifle wrapped in a towel,” Cox detailed.

Initial descriptions said the gunman wore jeans, a black shirt, and a black vest, and was seen perched with a long rifle.

“The messages also refer to engraving bullets and a mention of a scope, and the rifle being unique. Messages from the contact Tyler also mentioned that he had changed outfits,” Cox noted.

The FBI had already released pictures and videos, urging attendees to come forward with any information or footage.

The bureau had also offered up to $100,000 for information leading to the suspect’s identification and capture.
