‘Childish’: House Democrats mocked for introducing bill to rename Miami federal prison after Donald Trump

WASHINGTON, DC: A group of Democratic congressmen unveiled a new legislation to change the name of a federal prison in Miami, Florida, renaming it after former President Donald Trump, the New York Post reported.

Reps Gerry Connolly, Jared Moskowitz, and John Garamendi introduced the bill on Friday, April 5, to rename the Miami Federal Correctional Institution in the GOP presumptive nominee's home state to Donald J Trump Federal Correctional Institution.

The Democrat-led legislation was in response to the bill introduced by Republicans to rename the Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia to The Donald J Trump International Airport.

House Democrats mock Donald Trump

Connolly, who represents Virginia, said in a statement, "When our Republican colleagues introduced their bill to rename Dulles after Donald Trump, I said the more fitting option would be to rename a federal prison."

"I see no reason to wait," he added. Parts of the Dulles airport fall under his congressional district.

Connolly further mocked the former president, suggesting it was right to name the closest federal prison to his Mar-a-Lago luxury resort in Palm Beach after him and hoped the Republicans would join "in bestowing upon Donald J Trump the only honor he truly deserves."

Moskowitz, who jointly sponsored the bill, pointed out Trump's love to inscribe his name in gold letters on his buildings. "He's never had his name on a federal building before and as a public servant I just want to help the former president," the Congressman from Florida said.

Garamendi brought attention to Trump's record as the first ex-president in the history of the country to face 88 criminal charges over four indictments.

"MAGA Republicans have proven themselves unwilling to solve real problems that face our country. I cannot think of a more fitting tribute to our former president," the California lawmaker added.

The legislation to rebrand the Dulles airport after the former president's name is sponsored by Rep Guy Reschenthaler and six co-sponsors from the GOP caucus.

Internet ridicules House Democrats

The Democratic congressmen's move to rename the Miami federal prison after Trump led to social media mockery.

One user wrote, "Childish, but would be hilarious if we allowed the name change and then put them all in it after January. I wonder...."



 

"He will charge them one helluva a license fee to use his name. Trump wins again," another quipped.



 

A third user added, "I wish I could live rent free in my haters head the same way that Trump does. It’s truly remarkable and worthy of respect."

A fourth response read, "Pssst….Trump would love that."



 



 

"Trump Derangement Syndrome is real," someone else wrote.

Another chimed in, "WOW, WHAT A BUNCH OF @DNC LOSERS WE HAVE IN DC AND ARE STATES."



 



 

An individual said, "Any naming convention is fine, so long as we can keep Democrats locked up in it."



 

"Nice!!!!! And hopefully he fills it with Democrats!!!!" read another remark, and someone added, "Democrats throwing another temper tantrum Won't they have to pay him for using his name."
