NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Chris Cuomo didn’t hold back on July 15 episode of his podcast, going in hard on Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and essentially blaming her for dragging the Democrats into political quicksand.

“AOC is a major perpetrator and symbol of the demise of the Democratic Party,” Cuomo declared, slamming her as someone who’s pushing the left too far off the cliff by prioritizing “the few over the many.” According to Cuomo, elevating someone like AOC is “a huge f*****g mistake.”

Chris Cuomo slams Democrats for backing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo warned the Democratic Party that riding the “woke” wave, especially with figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leading the charge, is setting them up for failure.

“The current definition of woke,” he explained, “is all about weighing the needs and wants of the few over the many.”

Cuomo continued hammering away, warning Democrats that spotlighting AOC and her ideological circle is helping fringe movements creep into the mainstream.

“I think you're making a mistake paying attention to AOC and this new deference to radical left and radical fundamentalist and radical Islamist sympathies,” he said. “I think it's a huge f*****g mistake.”

According to him, the party is walking into a crisis that makes the culture wars around trans sports look tame by comparison. “If you [Democrats] think trans sports got you in a pickle, you're about to be in a whole bucket of brine,” he said.

He makes the remarks about Ocasio-Cortez around the 18 minute mark:

Andrew Cuomo takes on Zohran Mamdani as independent

It’s worth noting that former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, brother of Chris Cuomo, is now running for New York City mayor. His main opponent is democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, who actually defeated Cuomo in the Democratic primary last month.

But the ex-governor isn’t backing down, he’s continuing his campaign in the general election, just not as a Democrat.

“In this primary election, it was six socialist candidates basically pooling their money, pooling their rank choice, against me because I’m a moderate, and against Eric [Adams] when he was in the race, until he dropped out, because he was a moderate,” Cuomo said.

“So it, they are, it’s a socialist on the Democratic line, and I’m the Democrat, running on an independent line,” he told John Catsimatidis and Rita Cosby on the 'Cats & Cosby' radio show.

Ironically, the former Democratic governor is now off the Democratic ticket, while the self-described socialist Mamdani is flaunting the Democrat label. Cuomo is currently battling Mamdani, Eric Adams (who also flipped to run as an independent), and Republican Curtis Sliwa in a four-way race for NYC’s top job.

James Carville and Donald Trump sound off as Chris Cuomo faces socialist rival in NYC race

Even Democratic strategist James Carville seems to be echoing Chris Cuomo’s concerns. Back in April, Carville warned that allowing progressives like AOC and Bernie Sanders to steer the party is a major mistake.

“There’s truly depth and talent in the Democratic Party,” Carville said. “And the faster that we can get them on the field and people seeing them, and the sooner we can get people like Bernie Sanders and AOC not defining who the party is, the better off we’re going to be.”

President Donald Trump also chimed in. While he stopped short of endorsing Andrew Cuomo, he threw some shade Mamdani’s way. “I don’t want to say. I’m a Republican; he’s a Democrat or an independent,” Trump said when asked if he preferred Cuomo in the race.

Still, he couldn’t resist weighing in further. “I think Andrew would have a good shot of winning. He’s got to run a tough campaign. You know, he’s running against a communist,” he added, taking a jab at Zohran Mamdani.
