WASHINGTON, DC: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took a jab at President Donald Trump for "selling out" Ukraine after the POTUS did not announce an agreement to end the war following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

After the meeting, Trump said that he and Putin made "great progress" during the summit in Alaska on Friday, August 15, despite not reaching a deal on the ongoing war.

Chuck Schumer says Trump is 'bowing down' to Putin

Chuck Schumer wrote on X on Saturday, August 16, "Looks like once again Trump is selling out Ukraine and bowing down to dictator Putin. No Nobel Peace Prize for that."

During an interview on Fox News on August 15, Trump said that now it is "really up to President Zelensky to get it done," and added, "we have a pretty good chance of getting it done."

Meanwhile, Trump and Zelensky are expected to meet on Monday, August 18, at the Oval Office.

Notably, Schumer’s jab came after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton suggested nominating Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize should he successfully broker a ceasefire agreement with Putin.

Trump talked about Clinton’s remarks and told Fox News' Bret Baier, "That was very nice. I might have to start liking her again."

Last month, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Trump "brokered, on average, about one peace deal or ceasefire per month during his six months in office. It’s well past time that President Trump was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize."

In another X post, Schumer wrote, "Today, Donald Trump rolled out the red carpet for authoritarian thug Vladimir Putin. Instead of standing with Ukraine and our allies, Trump stood shoulder to shoulder with an autocrat that has terrorized the Ukrainian people and the globe for years."

"While we wait for critical details of what was discussed, on first take it appears Trump handed Putin legitimacy, a global stage, zero accountability, and got nothing in return. Our fear is that this wasn’t diplomacy, it was just theater," he added.

Internet slams Chuck Schumer for targeting Trump

Many internet users criticized Chuck Schumer after he took a jab at Donald Trump for "selling out" Ukraine following the POTUS’s meeting with Vladimir Putin, during which no agreement to end the war was announced.

A user wrote on X, "Oh, isn't this so funny. Can you please leave so we can have a fighting leader?" while another added, "If we go down, your name will be mentioned."

A person also stated, "Please retire," whereas one commented, "Looks like Chuck is embarrassing himself again."

Another user wrote, "This you literally bowing down to Putin?????" while one added, "Perhaps you should have, at least, waited until Monday evening to post your drivel."

A person also said, "Say it to his face."
