'Clenching her fists': Lindsay Clancy jurors reportedly fume after lone holdout blocks verdict

PLYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS: The atmosphere inside the courtroom reportedly turned tense when Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy case Friday, September 4, after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict.

CNN described striking reactions from female members of the panel as the decision was announced, highlighting the intensity surrounding the deadlocked deliberations.

Jurors fume after mistrial declaration

The reactions came as Sullivan formally ended the jury’s deliberations after the panel was unable to reach the unanimous decision required to deliver a verdict.

CNN correspondent Jean Casarez's description of the courtroom scene focused on the apparent frustration among several female jurors.

One was reportedly seen “clenching her hands into fists” while another would not even open her eyes.

A different juror was described as pursing her lips, while another appeared to shake her head “NO.”

“All the jurors were extremely intense,” Casarez said.

Following the mistrial, Clancy’s defense attorney Kevin Reddington sharply criticized what he described as the impact of a single juror on the panel.

“They know that they were robbed by one man, for whatever his agenda was, who stole seven weeks of the life of these other jurors,” Reddington told reporters outside the courthouse.

Reddington suggested the panel might have continued deliberating had it been able to do so.

His comments came as the identities and deliberations of the jurors remained protected by a court order.

Reddington also used his post-mistrial remarks to strongly defend his client, who will remain at Tewksbury State Hospital.

“I’m representing a woman who is a fantastic, wonderful individual. This woman is so brave, so awesome. Every day she came in this courthouse, stood tall,” he said.

Trump weighs in on Lindsay Clancy case

President Donald Trump also commented on the case Friday, saying he had followed the proceedings because of the extensive coverage.

“It’s hard not to. It’s on television so much,” Trump said. “I followed it pretty much, but it’s a shame. It’s a horrible tragedy.”

Trump said he expected another trial could take place.

“I assume there’s going to be another trial,” he said. “It’s a terrible situation. There will be a price to pay.”
