CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: ‘Diamond in My Pocket’ singer Cody Johnson has urged people to vote in the upcoming November election.

During his performance in Chicago on Saturday, July 13, he shared his thoughts about the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump, calling it a “disgusting” act.

“The fact that any American citizen would think that what they did today would solve a problem in this country is absolutely disgusting,” he said, adding “You want to solve a problem in this country? On Election Day, go in there and vote for who you want.”

Cody Johnson spoke about the relevance of free speech 

During his address, Johnson emphasized the importance of free speech in America.

“I’m tired of the hatred. I’m tired of the division. I’m tired of people talking about Trump and Biden. There’s people in this crowd that agree with Trump. There’s people in this crowd that agree with Biden,” he said. 

"Guess what. That is your God-given American right to believe whatever you want,” he added.

Johnson then did a “God Bless America” rendition for the audience and the crowd joined him, reports TMZ.


             

 

Hours earlier before the ‘Wild as You’ crooner's show, Trump was speaking at Butler, Pennsylvania, campaign rally when a shooter opened fire from one of the rooftops.

Donald Trump's statement after being shot at Pennsylvania rally 

The former president suffered a wound to his ear with Secret Service snipers returning fire and neutralizing the suspected assailant. However, during the assassination attempt at the former president, one attendee died while two others were severely injured, The shooter was later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. 

"I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response to the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Trump said in a statement on social media.

“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country,” he added.

“Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!" the former president further said.
