NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: New York City’s newly elected Democratic mayor, Zohran Mamdani, has Hollywood buzzing with praise.

Mamdani won the New York City mayoral election on Tuesday, November 4, defeating independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa with 50.4 percent of the vote. The 34-year-old mayor-elect, known for his outspoken support of Palestinian rights, has captured the attention of pop culture’s elite.

1. Cynthia Nixon

Actress Cynthia Nixon, who ran for New York governor in 2018, celebrated Zohran Mamdani’s win by posting photos with him and writing a heartfelt caption.

She began, “I love this young man so so much! He is a miracle of nature and I would follow him to the ends of the earth (and I almost have!), from conspiring in Albany for Uber and Lyft drivers and his Not On Our Dime bill, to supporting him and yellow cab drivers in their hunger strike outside City Hall, to the steps of our nation’s capitol to demand a #ceasefire, to taking out my bullhorn to rally support for his bold and then seemingly impossible bid for Mayor.”

Nixon, who previously voiced support for Mamdani earlier this year, ended her post with, “I woke up this morning with a hopeful, fresh new outlook on the world, but we’ve only just begun. Buckle up, we’re going for a ride you’re not going to want to miss!" 

2. Kal Penn

Actor and author Kal Penn, who also served as a White House staffer during Barack Obama’s administration, congratulated Zohran Mamdani in an Instagram post. Penn shared, “That's my Mayor! 🇺🇸."

3. Rosie O'Donnell

Rosie O'Donnell joined others in an Instagram post celebrating Zohran Mamdani’s election victory. “Can you feel it??! Change is NOW! I love you NYC!!” the post read.

4. Gracie Abrams

Among the excited New York celebrities celebrating Mamdani’s victory, Gracie Abrams also expressed her happiness by sharing several posts about his win on Instagram, writing that she was “screaming,” and adding, “I keep getting chills over and over.”

5. Halsey



Singer and songwriter Halsey publicly expressed her excitement over Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the 2025 New York mayoral election.

Halsey, who highlighted Mamdani’s historic win, wrote on X, “I just got off stage from an amazing show and Zohran Mamdani is mayor of New York, and I am not gonna be able to sleep, I’m too alive!”

Actor and comedian Billy Eichner shared a clip of Zohran Mamdani’s victory speech on social media. “This whole speech is really worth watching if you haven't. ‘Hope is alive.’ I love NYC. ❤️” he wrote under the video.

7. Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o, who once interned at Mirabai Films, the production company founded by Mamdani’s mother, Mira Nair, celebrated his win by congratulating him in an Instagram post. She wrote in the caption, “CONGRATULATIONS, MAYOR MAMDANI! 🙌🏿🗽❤️ #MamdaNY @zohrankmamdani,” along with a selfie she took with him.

Last week, she also shared a heartfelt post on Instagram. Nyong’o wrote that she first met Mamdani 20 years ago and added, “I believe that Zohran Mamdani possesses the personality, skills, and temperament to be an excellent mayor of New York City. The polls are open now and it was an honor to cast my vote for him!”

8. Mark Ruffalo

Multi–award–winning actor Mark Ruffalo, known for his films like 'Spotlight' and 'Foxcatcher,' took to Threads to celebrate Zohran Mamdani’s victory. He wrote, “Aww, New York City, I love you so much. Dems won big everywhere tonight, and Zohran winning NYC is icing on the cake. How sweet it is. Democracy.”

9. Rachel Zegler

Among the other musicians who expressed joy over Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral election win in the comments section of his first post after winning, Rachel Zegler also joined in. The actress and singer, known for her role in 'West Side Story,' commented, “He's home.”

Singer and songwriter Lauren Jauregui, known for being a member of the group Fifth Harmony, took to social media to celebrate New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s victory.

Lauren wrote on Mamdani’s Instagram post, “Thank God!! May you be protected and guided!! Yayyyy!”

11. Spike Lee

Director Spike Lee congratulated Zohran Mamdani by posting a photo on Instagram. The picture showed Lee and Mamdani posing in front of a mural that read, “Do the Right Thing.” In the caption, Lee referenced the Ray Charles song Hit the Road Jack, writing, “Start packing. ‘Hit Da Road Jack And Don’t Come Back No Mo’ No Mo’ Hit Da Road Jack.’”
