Dakota Johnson's 'Verity' follows a mystery filled with secrets and obsession
For those unaware, Johnson stars alongside Anne Hathaway and Hartnett in 'Verity', which is based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel and was released on October 2.
The film revolves around three central characters: Lowen Ashleigh, played by Johnson, Verity Crawford, played by Hathaway, and Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford, portrayed by Hartnett.
Directed by Michael Showalter, 'Verity' is a psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover's novel. The story follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is trying to find a wider audience for her work.
Her life takes an unexpected turn when she is approached by a publisher who wants her to complete an unfinished novel by one of the bestselling authors, Verity Crawford.
Lowen travels to Verity’s home and begins working on the manuscript from the villain’s perspective. However, she soon discovers that there is much more hidden behind the story than she initially expected.
Everything changes when Lowen comes across an unfinished manuscript that raises disturbing questions. Is it a confession, a work of fiction, or a glimpse into the truth? As she digs deeper, the mystery takes an even darker turn and eventually leads to murder.
Johnson described the complicated dynamic between the central characters as "toxic, codependent, and tumultuous," adding that "there is nothing healthy about anyone in this movie."
