Dakota Johnson gives rare response to love life speculation amid Machine Gun Kelly dating rumors

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dakota Johnson has offered a rare response to ongoing speculation about her love life amid dating rumors involving Machine Gun Kelly.

During a recent interview, the 36-year-old actress also shared why she chooses not to clarify false rumors.

Johnson sat down for a chat on a September 25 episode of Vogue’s 'The Run-Through' podcast, where she said, “Even if I go to dinner with my manager or my lawyer, it’s like, ‘Seen with mystery man’. I also don’t care.”

When the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ star was asked if she ever wants to shut down speculation about her love life, she replied, “I think it’s just futile. People are gonna believe what they wanna believe, and I don’t have the energy to fight for that.”

“Every day, there’s something on the internet that’s ridiculous and true or not true, and I don’t care,” she added.

Johnson and Kelly’s romance rumors began after they attended Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City, with sources claiming they saw a spark between them.

But the ‘Materialists’ actress has a three-word response for those interested in her dating life, “Get a life”.

During the podcast, Johnson also spoke about her relationship with social media.

She explained, “Maybe when I was in my younger 20s, I had a moment of being on social media just for fun and laughs. ‘Cause I love a clever thing.”

She also asserted that she “feel(s) really uncomfortable with the constant documenting of people’s lives,” before adding, “I am obsessed with people not knowing where I am or what I’m doing. I’m far too porous and sensitive and present. I don’t, I can’t deal.”

Johnson was earlier reportedly romantically involved with Role Model. However, their relationship ended in less than a year.

Before this, she was in a long-term relationship with Chris Martin. However, they broke up in June 2025 after being together on and off for years.

In August 2024, rumors of their split first began. However, at the time, a representative for Johnson told PEOPLE, “They are happily together.”

Another source added, “Sure, they've had issues and taken breaks in the past, but things are great now. Their relationship works because they are both very independent and actually have lives outside of their relationship too.”

Their “final” breakup, however, happened a year later. Despite their split, Martin reportedly supported her during a Coldplay concert in Las Vegas.
