DETROIT, MICHIGAN: Legendary comic Dave Chappelle, 50, is stepping into the political spotlight, headlining a high-profile fundraiser for Hill Harper, a longshot Democratic candidate in Michigan’s heated Senate race.

The event is set for July 11 at Detroit’s iconic Saint Andrew’s Hall, with tickets starting at $500 through the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue.

For the more politically engaged, a $3,300 ticket offers access to a VIP reception with Harper post-show. This sum represents the maximum individual contribution allowed per federal election cycle. Harper, 58, an actor and author known for his roles in 'CSI: NY' and 'The Good Doctor,' is hoping to script a political upset on August 6 by defeating Rep Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich) in the Democratic primary. While recent polls show Harper trailing with just 8 per cent, his supporters believe the Motor City could propel him to victory.

“Slotkin is the DSCC, Chuck Schumer-anointed choice. They want her,” a senior Republican strategist from the Midwest told The Post. “Harper thinks it’s a huge problem that Detroit has no Black reps in DC. Chappelle clearly seems to think so too. But [Harper] is a Hollywood guy with lots of famous friends. This could just be the beginning,” reported the New York Post.

“Slotkin has way more money and momentum right now,” he added. “But if Harper can maximize events like this and get his message out, Detroit could absolutely carry him to DC in November.” “There’s so many people out here across Michigan — I’ve been to all 83 counties —folks that don’t feel represented by their federal delegation,” he told reporters in May.

Chappelle remains a dedicated Democrat, having endorsed Andrew Yang in the 2020 primary and reluctantly supported Hillary Clinton in 2016. The August primary winner will face former GOP congressman Mike Rogers in the general election, vying for the seat soon to be vacated by retiring Democrat Debbie Stabenow.

Internet slams Dave Chappelle over fundraiser for Hill Harper

As news broke of Chappelle headlining a fundraiser for Democratic Senate candidate Harper, online critics lit up with reactions.

A social media user tweeted, "Pathetic."

Another said, "For Democrats, Hill Harper is better than sleazy Elissa Slotkin But Michigan should elect Republican @MikeRogersForMI"

A third claimed, "Love Dave. It won’t help. Dems are F’d in 2024."

"Retard," read a tweet.
