David Schultz: Missing Iowa man's wife 'not ready to give up hope' after his truck was found on a highway
SAC CITY, IOWA: Authorities have still not been able to find an Iowa man who has been reportedly missing for the past couple of weeks after his pig-filled truck was found abandoned on a highway that he was reportedly set to deliver pigs to a farm days before Thanksgiving.
According to the Lake View Police Department and the Sac County Sheriff's Office, 53-year-old David Schultz disappeared on November 21. Police said the Wall Lake resident was last heard from earlier that morning.
David Schultz's trailer was pulled over off the side of the road
The married father of twin boys was slated to deliver the pigs to a farm near Sac City when his semi-trailer truck was found that afternoon on northbound US Highway 71, near its intersection with US Highway 20, even though it should have been headed southbound to get to Sac City, the Sioux City Journal reported.
According to the paper, the trailer was pulled over off the side of the road but was not turned off. The pigs were also still inside the truck, according to the Journal, USA Today and the Associated Press.
The investigation is still ongoing
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, which is assisting in the investigation, told USA Today that Schultz was still unaccounted for as of Thursday, December 7. Along with authorities, volunteers with the nonprofit search and rescue group United Cajun Navy have searched over 100,000 acres for Schultz.
"Unfortunately, we did not find the answers we are all hoping and praying for so much," the organization posted on Facebook Sunday. "We feel we may have exhausted any potential search locations in the area," they added.
David Schultz's wife is not ready to give up hope
Even though the chances of finding David alive seemingly appear to be slim, his wife, Sarah, wrote on Facebook that she isn't giving up hope. "David, if you are out there please know we won't give up til you are home with us. I know this was not your fault. I know you would never leave us. We love you so much and our love for you will never end", she wrote on Facebook on Thursday, December 7.
The wife also echoed the same to USA Today, "This is not something David would do. He would never leave. His family is his life."
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Sac County Communications Center at 712-662-7127.
