WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump recently shared a clip of Jon Voight on his Truth Social channel, where the Academy Award-winning actor said the former president “has been targeted” and “destroyed as Jesus.”

On Thursday, February 1, Trump shared the video that garnered huge traction on social media, per Huff Post. Earlier too, the former president has claimed himself to be the "messiah" and "God's chosen one for America".

What did Jon Voight say?

Jon Voight, 85, has been a long-time supporter of Trump and previously likened the president to Mother Teresa as well.

In the video clip, Voight claimed that the Republican presidential candidate “has been targeted for his information that can knock down the corrupt swamp.”

He further claimed that Trump is “the only man that can destroy the negative propaganda that has been sworn into this office.”

The ‘National Treasure’ star further continued, “Can he be saved with the American people who believe in God’s glory? Can we save our nation from the dark cloud that has been put upon our life’s dreams? Yes.”

He later explained, “Because Joshua promised the land of hospitality and his sword of righteousness. Fought the battles left and right. The battles of right and wrong.”

Continuing in his speech laced with spiritual symbolism, Voight said, “Believe.”

He urged, “That the man that can help this nation, the one man that was ridiculed, destroyed as Jesus, Trump, can come back and save the American dream for all. And make America great with the dignity, with the power of who she is.”

Jon Voight gets slammed by netizens

Netizens erupted over Donald Trump's retruthed video of Jon Voight, as they slammed it as a PR stance.

One of the social media users said, "Fun fact. Jon Voight was trending under “music” yesterday which shows how irrelevant and unrecognizable he is."

Someone else said, "Interesting. Democrats attract young and promising talent, invested in the future of their country. Magas attract old and unfortunately “has-been” entertainers such as Voight, stuck in the past. Note: I still watch Voight movies. I like the actor.. Basically i like when he “pretends”. The “real” him, not so much."

"That is called blasphemy," declared the third.

"Jesus and Donald Trump are as different as a secular American to a ufo on Venus," commented another social media user.

A netizen commented, "We did rise above darkness and save ourselves. That’s why Trump isn’t the President."

"That must be ai…! There is no way that he believes those words apparently coming out of his mouth… surely? #JonVoight Trump must have paid Jon Voight an awful lot for that…," remarked someone else.

"@jonvoight has gone completely around the bend. Sad to see someone who has accomplished so much in his acting career descend into such radical detachment from reality," mourned a disgruntled fan of Jon Voight.

Someone else added, "You remind me of a group of religious people called 'Antis'."

Another angry user commented, "This is deeply insane."
