WASHINGTON, DC: Former vice president Dick Cheney will be casting his vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, according to his daughter, former Representative Liz Cheney.

Both Dick and Liz Cheney have long been recognized as Republicans, with the former having served as vice president under George W Bush.

However, Liz Cheney has become one of the most prominent conservative critics of former president Donald Trump.

She shared this revelation during an interview at the Texas Tribune Festival, noting her father’s strong opposition to Trump and his concerns for the future of democracy.

"Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris," Liz Cheney said when asked if she knew who her father would support in the upcoming election, NBC News noted.

“If you think about the moment that we’re in, and you think about how serious this moment is, my dad believes and he’s said publicly that there’s never been an individual in our country who is as grave a threat to our democracy as Donald Trump is," she elaborated.

Liz Cheney’s comments come shortly after she made a similar announcement regarding her own plans to vote for Kamala Harris.

On Wednesday, during an event at Duke University, Liz stressed the dangers posed by Trump.

"Because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris," said Liz during the event at Duke University.

When asked for comment about Liz's statements, Trump campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, responded with a blunt remark, "Who the f**k is Liz Cheney?"

His statement reflects the ongoing tension between the former president and the Cheney family, particularly Liz's outspoken criticism of Trump.

The former congresswoman also took the opportunity to voice her support for Representative Colin Allred, D-Texas, in his Senate bid to unseat Senator Ted Cruz.

“Here in Texas you guys do have a tremendous, serious candidate running for the United States Senate, and his name is —,” Liz said in an interview with the Atlantic.

"It’s not Ted Cruz," she added, before praising Allred’s credentials. “We need people who are going to serve in good faith. We need people who are honorable public servants, and in this race, that is Colin Allred," she said

Dick Cheney's strong opposition to Donald Trump

Dick Cheney’s decision to support Kamala Harris represents a remarkable departure for the staunch conservative who previously held leadership roles in the House Republican Caucus, the publication noted.

His outspoken criticism of Trump, particularly in the wake of the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, has been a driving factor in his shift away from the party’s current direction.

In campaign ads for his daughter Liz’s 2022 reelection bid, the former vice president delivered a strong message about Trump, calling him a “threat to our republic” and a “coward," CNN noted.

He added, “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him,” reflecting his continued disapproval of the former president's actions.
