HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA: Former president Donald Trump made headlines on Wednesday with a bold claim that he has “the number one selling mugshot” in history outshining even Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra

Addressing a raucous rally in Harrisburg, the twice impeached 45th president boasted about the notoriety of his booking photo, exclaiming, "I’m being indicted for you. Did you like my mugshot?"

The mugshot, taken during Donald Trump’s arrest at Fulton County Jail in August 2023 on charges including racketeering and falsifying documents, has indeed become a cultural phenomenon. The GOP presidential nominee humorously recounted how his parents, looking down from heaven, would be amazed by his mugshot’s fame.

“Elvis was one, Frank Sinatra was two,” Trump said, “and I’m proud to tell you that you have made mine bigger than both of them by a lot.” "It’s the biggest-selling mugshot ever, and I still haven’t figured out whether or not I’m happy about it. I’m not sure. In one way I’m thrilled, in another way I’m not sure I like it," per Mediaite.

In 1938, Sinatra was arrested on charges of seduction and adultery. Elvis faced two separate arrests in his lifetime: once for speeding on April 3, 1955, and again in 1956 for carrying a concealed weapon.

Despite this, one of the well-known images often mistaken for a mugshot of the ‘Jailhouse Rock’ singer is actually a military photo.

Donald Trump becomes first former president convicted of felony crimes

In 2023, Donald Trump made history as the first former US President to face criminal charges. He was indicted on multiple counts, including racketeering, conspiracy to commit forgery, and making false statements, with his initial mugshot taken in August following his arrest in Fulton County.

Additionally, earlier this year, Trump became the first former President to be convicted of a crime, as a Manhattan jury found him guilty on all 34 counts related to falsifying business documents connected to a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Donald Trump capitalizes on mugshot merchandise

The Donald Trump campaign quickly took advantage of the mugshot's widespread attention by launching a new line of merchandise featuring the now-famous image, available on the 'Trump Save America JFC' website.

The former president has boasted about the commercial success of his mugshot, claiming it has notably increased his support among Americans. He even gifted a mugshot-themed t-shirt to social media influencer and professional wrestler Logan Paul earlier this year.

Other items include 'I Stand With Trump' t-shirts for $36, 'MAGA 47' red hats for $40, 2024 Trump flags for $43, and various other patriotic apparel and accessories.

In contrast, Trump’s critics, such as the Lincoln Project, have also utilized the mugshot for their own merchandise aimed at criticizing the real estate mogul.

Donald Trump's past remarks about Elvis

This isn't the first time Donald Trump has drawn a comparison to Elvis Presley. On Truth Social, he shared a photo blending his face with the 'King of Rock and Roll', captioning it, "For years, people have said Elvis and I look alike. This pic is everywhere now. What do you think?"

Although the inspiration behind the post is unclear, Trump has frequently likened himself to other notable historical figures, including Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, and even Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
