CUMMING, GEORGIA: Former president Donald Trump declared himself as the "father of IVF" while speaking at an all-female town hall event in Georgia.

The GOP presidential nominee's bizarre remarks came before answering an attendee's question regarding the in vitro fertilization procedure at the Fox News town hall on Tuesday, October 15, as per The Daily Beast.

"Oh, I want to talk about IVF. I'm the father of IVF, so I want to hear this question," Trump said with a laugh despite the procedure being under threat after the upending of Roe v Wade.

However, it is unclear whether Trump was making a joke or taking credit for IVF.

Donald Trump says GOP is the 'party for IVF'

The woman who prompted Donald Trump's response asked what he had to say to women worried that Republican abortion bans could impact their access to fertility treatments, including IVF.

Trump turned to Fox News' Harris Faulkner, who moderated the event, recalling how Sen Katie Britt explained IVF to him.

"I said, 'Explain IVF very quickly'," Trump remarked. "And within about two minutes, I understood, we're totally in favor of IVF."

The MAGA leader's claim came amidst rising concerns about the future of the expensive treatment in light of the potential outlawing of abortion in the event of his election victory.

The US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in 2022, taking away the constitutional right to abortion and instead passing the right to form reproductive laws to individual states.

Earlier this year, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos were children and stated anyone destroying those would be punished for wrongful death. The shocking ruling scared doctors, bringing the procedure to a stop in the state.

Following widespread backlash from reproductive rights advocates, the GOP-led legislature of the state passed a bill granting civil and criminal immunity to both IVF providers and patients.

However, speaking at the town hall, Trump claimed, "We really are the party for IVF."

"We want fertilization, and it's all the way, and the Democrats tried to attack us on it, and we're out there on IVF, even more than them. So, we're totally in favor," he added.

Vice President Kamala Harris slammed Trump for dubbing himself the "father of IVF," deeming his remarks "quite bizarre." She stated if the president was "taking responsibility," he should do it because "one in three women in America lives in a Trump abortion ban state."

Furthermore, the VP said her opponent should also be accountable for the concerns of couples hoping to have children, as the treatment was now at risk.

This year, Republican senators blocked two bills aimed at ensuring the right to IVF procedure brought by Democrats.

Internet ridicules Donald Trump for calling himself 'father of IVF'

Donald Trump's taking credit for IVF was met with mockery online. Netizens claimed the MAGA leader's dementia made him say that.

"Trump is a man with worsening dementia in final phase," a user said.

"Trump’s brain is mush," another remarked.

"They can’t sell JD, so they are propping up a man whose mind is fast running away from him," added a user.

"His lies are getting more fantastical every day," read a response.

"Someone should ask him what IVF stands for. He has no idea," another user wrote.

"He only just had to ask Katie Britt what IVF meant now he’s suddenly the father? What an absolute fool," someone else chimed in.

"Drum roll... and NOW, dementia DonOLD claims to be "the Father of IVF." Such a versatile liar," an individual said.

"He will spot whatever comes into his head. It would be a great laugh if it wasn’t so goddamned dangerous," read another remark.
