'Truly frightening': Internet slams Katie Britt over bill to create federal database of pregnant women

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Senator Katie Britt from Alabama introduced the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed Act (MOMS Act) to create a federal website to collect data on pregnant women, on May 9.

The legislator best known for her rebuttal of President Joe Biden's 2024 State of the Union address, reportedly promoted the bill saying, "This legislation is further evidence that you can absolutely be pro-life, pro-woman, and pro-family at the same time. The MOMS Act advances a comprehensive culture of life, grows and strengthens families, and ensures moms have the opportunities and resources needed so they and their children can thrive and live their American Dreams.”



 

MOMS Act entail to create federal database of pregnant Americans

According to MTN, the legislation, if passed, would mandate the creation of a federal website called Pregnancy.gov, which the Senator defined as a "clearinghouse of relevant resources available for pregnant and postpartum women, and women parenting young children."

Users will be taken through a series of questions on the site, which will then generate a list of relevant resources of interest within the user’s zip code. Government officials can also reach out to the users for available information through the legislation.

The bill specifically forbids any entity that "performs, induces, refers for, or counsels in favor of abortions" from being listed in the database. Instead, users would be referred to "crisis pregnancy centers" which would reportedly be preventing them from getting an abortion by any necessary means.

A federal grant program for the crisis pregnancy centers listed on the website would also be set up, and it would exclude any entity that provides or refers for abortions.

This comes at a time when multiple hospitals in the state of Alabama have closed down their labor and delivery units in response to a total abortion ban in that state. The State Supreme Court has also effectively banned IVF procedures by ruling that fertilized human embryos have legal personhood.



 

Internet calls MOMS Act 'truly frightening'

The internet slammed the new bill introduced by Senator Britt.

"Just another day in Republicans anti-women dystopia. Truly frightening," wrote a user.



 

"That is beyond creepy. That is soooo damn wrong. Isn’t that against HIPAA laws? Isn’t that against all human decency?" inquired another.



 

"So much for small government and trimming bureaucracy... The GOP is not recognizable anymore," shared a third.



 

"Katie Britt actively works to take away freedoms from other women," stated a fourth user.



 

"She’s nuts and dangerous," commented a fifth, with a creepy clip from Britt's SOTU rebuttal.
