WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump's decision to drag children into the signing ceremony on Thursday, March 20, to dismantle the Department of Education drew eerie comparisons to North Korean tactics.

Trump didn’t arrive alone at the televised signing of his executive order to eliminate DOE but brought over a dozen children along for the ride, according to Daily Beast.

The children sat at school desks behind Trump as he signed the order and held it up for the cameras. Children mirrored his actions as each one signed their version of the order and held it up in unison, per the outlet.

The event was attended by Republican governors, Republican congress members, and members of conservative activist organizations, along with teachers and the children's families.

Interestingly, when the POTUS approached the desk for the signing, he asked the children, "Should I do this?" and they said "Yes".

Meanwhile, Trump said Thursday that his order would "begin eliminating the federal Department of Education once and for all," but noted that Congress would need to take action to complete the process.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said before the signing, "The Department of Education will be much smaller than it is today. When it comes to student loans and Pell grants, those will still be run out of the Department of Education."

Notably, since starting his second term as president, Trump has pushed to dismantle the Department of Education, which Congress established in 1979 to shift control to the states.

According to reports, the order will direct Education Secretary Linda McMahon to drastically shrink the department, potentially shutting it down entirely, according to the Irish Star.

It means that McMahon will need to take "all necessary steps to facilitate the closure and return education authority to the states."

Moreover, public school advocates argued that dismantling the DOE would harm children in an already unequal US education system.
